Need money advice... Leaving in 10 days

We are leaving April 2nd for a 5 day cruise. I have already paid the cruise and the pre paid tips. We will not be doing any excursions, just a little shopping and eating at our ports.

It is just my husband and I. We do not gamble very much, might just try it out. I will play bingo maybe once just to say I did it.

We will enjoy some cocktails but will not be staggering around the ship either:eek::D

We have 1,000.00 to spend. I was told 100.00 per person per day would be great !

What do you recommend ?

Also how much in small bills do you bring with you ?

I would like to just take the 1,000.00 put it on the S&S card and just go have fun. Would like to make sure that is feasible.

I would say $100.00 per person per day is a fair estimate. Would this be in addition to to the $1,000.00 you plan on putting on your Sign & Sail account? To start out, you may want $100.00 in small bills ( 1's & 5's) for tip money. You can always go to the Purser's Desk and get a couple of $20.00's broken if you need additional small bills. We tend to get a little nervous having large amounts of cash with us on vacation, so we take travelers checks (which can be cashed at the Purser's Desk). Hope you have a great cruise!:)

If you truly stick with what you plan on doing & not doing, the $1000 should be enough for 5 days. You will need to take some cash with you for things like tips (take $1 bills for this), and anything else small you may want to pay for off the ship.

Honestly, I would never take a cruise and not have some cash on me.

Have a great cruise!

Judging from other posts, sukyrin is on Elation, Western Carribean.

Can't help with the on-board spend, but for ashore USD are fine.

Market stalls, taxis & vans at the pier etc will also give change in USD.

However, some shops accept USD but give change in local currency - usually because this is how their cash registers are programmed. Its here where you need low bills, or you come home with a pocketful of souvenir coins.

Low bills also help with your bartering in the markets - bring out a roll of twenties & your bargaining power is nil

For whatever reason $2 bills are not popular, nor is anything bigger than a twenty.

That sounds like plenty....don't bring a bunch of small bills....larger bills are easier to transport. Bring $100 in smaller bills, then get the rest broken down on the ship...either at customer service or the casino.

Don't put all of your money on your account...you'll want cash for ashore! And, room service tips (if you use that....it's a cash tip thing!)

You will have more than enough money. If you already paid the tips, that is a big part. As said previously take about $100 in small bills or maybe even $200. You didnt say where you were going, so I am assuming the Carribean, you will need the small bills to buy stuff off shore, much easier. Any room service, a buck or two is good to have for them. The ships that I have been on have safes in the room to put the extra $$$$. Have a great time!! :D

Credit cards are accepted widely all over the world for purchases and cash, but make sure you tell your credit card company where you are going or your card won't work in the ATM. You will also need a 4-digit PIN.

Your drinks will be added to your account. No cash needed.

I would never use my credit card to get cash unless it was a true emergency.

We never use our card when off the ship. I think some people just prefer cash while in port. We have been to many places in the islands that did not take credit cards, so I'm glad we've always had some cash with us.

I think a budget of $1,000 is more than enough given what you plan. You could even splurge a little more than you plan. Big budget bsuters are booze & the casino b/c it's easy to lose track of what you are spending.

We usually take about $200 in small bills.
