I only sailed once on a cruise in November in the Nieuw Amsterdam in a Verandah but now we are looking at doing Bermuda in July , but in an Oceanview. I am feeling nervous about not having a balcony....but do the windows open in a ocenview to allow fresh air? Probably a dumb question.....:o

Even balconies doors are supposed to be left open for fresh air ;)

No, the windows don't open.

(emphasis mine) Now I know you have a typo there, Peter, and would want it corrected.

Balcony doors are not supposed to be left open.

That is right! My MIL told me when she was a girl travelling trans-Antlantic by herself to go to school she had a ocenview room with a port hole . She has said that the sea was rough one day and the porthole was left open and everything in her room got soaked , including her bed which was directly under the porthole. SHe was telling me the story when we were talking about how hard the Stewards work, because her's had worked so hard to help sop up seawater and dry everything (with my MIL of course :) )

Just hope that you have clean windows to look out of! On our Veendam 2009 Alaska cruise, the cabin windows had some sort of oily residue on them. Short of hitting them with soap and a brush, they were never cleaned, despite a hosing down at one of the ports.

Not a silly question at all. I have had oceanview on Carnival and am going on HAL in July. I also wondered if I would be lucky enough to have a window that opened - kind of like the old movies..... I can dream :)
