sportsmum Posted April 2, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2012 August 14th/Ketchikan. Anan or Traitor's Cove? Which is the best for possible viewings? Family Air may be able to get us to Anan, Island Wings can get us to Traitor's Cove. Help, please!! :)
Budget Queen Posted April 2, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2012 Traitor's is peak season. Anan maybe, A few years ago, I tried to go a week later with them essentially gone. For me, I don't book anything outside of peak. I suggest you verify the sighting stats for when you are there, and what they have seen the last few years, in that timeframe. Snookum Posted April 3, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2012 We went mid August last year and it was terrific. Saw lots of bears at the falls and ran into them on the trails. Most exciting thing we've done while on vacation. I can't wait to go back to Anan. Ranger there said there was good viewing through all of August. That's his words so all I know is in mid August our trip was great. Enjoy whatever you decide and hope you see alot of bears.;)
Budget Queen Posted April 3, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 3, 2012 Ranger there said there was good viewing through all of August. That's his words so all I know is in mid August our trip was great. Enjoy whatever you decide and hope you see alot of bears.;) That wasn't the case a few years ago with me. Bear sightings were over, with an extended walk involved to another location for possible viewing. This was about August 18/19. I have never known there to be consistant good sightings at Anan, after mid month. Sure, there can be variations on the salmon runs, but, this is end of season. Depends if you want to spend the money with that possibility. I was able to decide that day, if I wanted to go or not, with a guide who had been out the previous several days. sportsmum Posted April 4, 2012 Author #6 Share Posted April 4, 2012 I'll hedge my bets and stick with Traitor's Cove. It's too much money (4 of us) to take any chances! The company taking us there has great reviews too. Thanks so much!
