beekrock Posted April 5, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2012 I've only ever sailed with NCL and have done so numerous times. This go-around, I'm thinking of trying Royal Caribbean. My only hesitation is the dress code. I know what the cruise line websites say, but I'm wondering what the true, real-world difference between the two is regarding dress code. My ideal day on a cruise is going out on an excursion, coming back to lounge by the pool, head off to dinner and then to a show or the casino. If I were to sail on RCCL, at what point does the dress code come into effect? Just dinner? Dinner and beyond? After a specific time, say, 5:00? The dress code only applies for eating in the main dining room during dinner. They don't want people walking in there with cut off shorts and such. You can dress however you want in other parts of the ship though. Some people don't like to change clothes at all so will stay away from the MDR. GORDONCHICK Posted April 5, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2012 If you're not in the MDR, the dresscode doesn't really go into effect, though I think the specialty restaurants would also expect you to clean up instead of going straight from the pool. We did our 1st RCCL last month & have done 2 NCL.
marco Posted April 5, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 5, 2012 Even in the MDR, unless you come into dinner on formal night in cut offs and a tank top, I think you'd be OK. Last yr, it was formal night and a couple of gents came into the MDR with an open collar shirt, khaki pants and dockers....not a problem.
