The "MUST" pack on a cruise

Recommended Posts

We bring an inexpensive Brita pitcher on every cruise and leave it at the end. My husband drinks about a gallon of water every day and we both can't stand the taste of cruise ship tap water. I like the Brita water!

That seems like a good idea.... Does it fit in the fridge?

just off the Victory and I saw some shipmates at one of the beaches eating fruit and other items they packed in tupperware that they filled at the buffet that morning...meanwhile we were sharing a $17.00 wrap:eek:

never thought of it but its light and you can put stuff inside of it, not a bad idea for next cruise!

I really like this idea, being as cheap as they come LOL, but there are strict rules about taking food off the ship. Still, I bring ziplocs for the same reason. I also grab little boxes of cereal off the breakfast buffet- one or two make a great snack on the beach.

My list:

crystal light, along with several insulated water bottles - stay hydrated! (I also have a Brita water bottle to use in case the cabin tap water tastes a little funky - I'm picky as well as cheap, but don't want to buy bottled water if I don't have to).

Starbucks VIA instant coffee, although on my recent RCI cruise I didn't need them.

Lots of OTC meds, all manner of first aid supplies in small amounts, sewing kit, etc.

beach bag, a couple swimsuits (so there's always a dry one), rash guard swim top (protects from sunburn while snorkeling/swimming), and gobs of sunblock and aloe vera gel.

wet wipes

What I'll take next time/wish I'd had last time:

collapsible cooler

insulated coffee mug

over the door shoe holder

lanyards for sign&sail card

water shoes

my own snorkel gear

mini power strip for travel (the Belkin one recommended on these boards)

I have no idea, but you could bring. Couple of empty Nalgene bottles to stick in the fridge with water (we do that to carry our water around anyway, they're great!)

I've heard that too, that's why I made sure mine was new and also a surge protector. Figured I had less of a chance of getting it confiscated and mine made it through no problem.

You can bring your surge protected power cord. They can confiscate it under the conditions below per their website.

• Personal grooming devices such as hair dryers, flat and curling irons, shavers, etc., are allowed on board when used with proper caution. These devices should not be used when other electrical appliances are plugged in. However, if such devices are determined to pose a hazard, they will be removed and returned the last day of the cruise prior to debark.

Pack a waterproof lanyard cover for my sign and sail card and passport if going off the ship.

\)

Sunglasses you don't mind losing.

Swimsuit coverup... so people don't freak out if they see your robe.:p

I can't bring sunglasses that I don't mind losing! Mine are prescription progressives and my newest pair were almost 400.00 on sale this week. I will be bringing a strap for those windy speed boat rides as I cannot afford to lose them!!

Oh, I forgot to add my Kindle Fire. I got it before my last cruise, and loaded it up with books, magazines, and audiobooks. Looooooove the kindle.

And, I find I DO actually wear the multiple items I pack for each day. I get sweaty and feel like I need a change, of at least a tank top.

Someone suggested bringing money to the tune of $100 per person per day - I don't know if they meant all of that in cash, but I didn't bring near that much. I don't like to have that much cash - ever! I brought about $40 in ones on my last cruise, and that was plenty for tips - most everything else could go on s&s or credit card. I did have larger bills for souvenirs where credit cards couldn't be used, but that was the exception.

Even if there isn't an emergency, it's still a good thing to have a little flashlight with you. How often do you look behind the bed because you dropped something, have to look in someone's throat to see if they have strep or just sinus drainage, read somewhere dark, or need something that doesn't provide enough light to wake your spouse when you need to find the ibuprofen in the middle of the night?

I have a little one that lives on my purse, plus one that flashes and changes colors that I can clip to me when I'm riding my scooter so people can see me better.

Smart phones/iphones serve so many purposes such as clock, alarm clock, music, GPS, and with so many aps, I have a flashlight ap. What other aps would be helpful on a cruise?

There's an app called shipmate with deck plans of the ship.

Duct tape is all you need!:D It can save you room since you don't need to pack for swimming or formal night and can save you money on late night babysitters if you need to go to the casino:p. Plus it can save a lot of late night stress for the ladies:rolleyes:.

This was someone else's idea that was posted on these boards once so i cant take credit for it.

We take a 1 inch binder with plastic pages. The plastic pages are divided into sections such as Air travel, boarding passes, other confirmation numbers like parking and hotels or excursion tickets etc.

The remaining plastic pages are for copies of the daily fun times.

This binder stays with me in my carry on and makes it easy to get out airline info, rental car, and hotel info during out trip.

On the cover of the binder (where you can slip something under the plastic) i print out a picture of the ship and out Itinerary. Makes a good book to use after the cruise if you like to make a scrap book of your trip.

you could be like us and book a lido cabin right by the action ,its alittle more money but we never are hungry.Foods(and drinks) about 50 yards away at all times :)

We always book a Lido...but this time we are going with a group of 60 or so, so it was a group booking. Still have a great room!!

Don't get me wrong, we don't mind walking all over at any hours of the night, but sometimes having snacks near us is just a bit more handy!

Trust me, we will not let this get us down or wreck our fun!!

I agree with the previous posts.

I always pack "crazy glue", OTC meds, candy bars, chips, etc.(When you see what the ship store charges, you will know what I mean!;))

Plus, I like to pack a pair of binoculars. And I never leave without my portable luggage scale, if I'm flying. (Who wants to be charged for that "overweight suitcase?!)

I'm sure there will be more to come.........

Pardon me - I am new to Carnival . Cruised with other cruise lines...

Candy bars and chips? - are you serious? is there a food on the ship?

Fart spray for the bathroom and booze. I would say birth control but my wife ate wedding cake 18 years ago so that took care of that problem.;):D:p

Actually LOL'd at this!!!

More than one pair of walking shoes or sandals for walking around. Your shoes can get wet or a strap break, or just get uncomfortable day after day. I learner this the hard way. I had plenty of dress shoes, but only one pair of walking around shoes. Big mistake.

Yup - I agree - my brand new ones broke on our Med cruise last year - definately take more than one pair!!

I have a binder also...friends thought I was nuts for making it (scrapbooked the front & back). Saves lots of time while trying to locate paperwork and keeping things from getting lost. I also have a zippered pencil case that fits the binders that I keep all my receipts in (great for balancing sail card).

One thing that i didnt see listed was: eyeglass repair kit

I dont think I saw this one mentioned yet.

We take a small packet of those suction cup hook thingies. We suction them to the bathroom door and then I have a place to hang my robe, towel or whatever. You can buy them at any walmart or target etc and you get two in a pack. Less than $2 or $3 i think.

Oh lord. I think I will be graduating to the land of using a binder to keep my stuff organized. I have tried fighting it but with our next cruise being a 7 day sailing and will be writing a review for that one as well, it only makes sense to keep a binder. :o I wonder how many eye-rolls I will get from DBF on this.

I may just get some stickers on my lunch break and a notebook. Here we go! :p

Good for you all4fun!

We enjoy planning the cruise and getting ready almost (but not quite) as much as the cruise itself!

One other thing I put in the binder...I am a history buff so I like to research the ports we will be visiting and write up or print out some interesting facts and trivia about the places we will be visiting. Just something fun to do.

After seeing the post yesterday, I went out and bought a binder and sheet protectors today.

I already have all my cruise docs in there as well as our itinerary, excursion confirmations, maps for ports of call, full size deck plans and other necessary papers.

Today, I read stewartgirl721's post about the zippered pencil case that goes in the binder to hold S&S receipts... now I want one of those, too. :o

My 12 yr old DD was watching me put the binder together and said "Mom... you're obsessed." I guess I am with this being our 1st cruise and all.
