Upsell Fairy

okay what is this about the upsell fairy. I've nver heard of this. What is this all about?

Basically when the cruise lines have unsold suite level rooms that they want to fill, they will offer the rooms at a discount to people who booked rooms below that level. They will then sell the room those people had to people who booked rooms below that. Generally, they have to call you though. Thus the "fairy". Some people get the calls, most don't.

For our upcoming cruise this Saturday... I've been watching the suites... specifically the Garden Villa (highest level suite on the Jewel)... as of last Friday... they were both still available... then Saturday only one... I knew the upsell calls were starting. Lo and behold... the Upsell Fairy called me today! We were in an SF aft suite on deck 10.... now we're in a Penthouse in The Haven! Can't WAIT!!! We've never sailed in The Haven before!

Upsells don't just apply to suites. I was upsold from an inside to a balcony cabin, so it probably varies from sailing to sailing depending on which categories have sold well and what cabins remain unsold.

Oh, absolutely!! Sorry about that... I didn't want to imply that it was just for suites. In 2005 we had booked a balcony cabin for the 4 of us and we received an upsell to the (then) AB Penthouse Suite... 2 bedrooms... Well, it worked! We (as a family) haven't sailed in anything less since!

No need to apologize. My post wasn't aimed at you. DevCruise stated, "when the cruise lines have unsold suite level rooms that they want to fill...". I just wanted to make sure the OP knew that not all upsells involve suites.

I guess I didn't phrase it very well. I know it's not just suites that get upsold. However, they generally do start from the suite level and work their way down.
