gramfrog Posted April 18, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2012 We have signed up for the Disney Vacation Club Members-Only cruise on the Dream sailing September 16, 2012. This time we will not be taking and grandchildren-- just the two of us. Anyone ever take a members' cruise? What special things go on during the members' cruise? Any suggestions onboard activities for adults with no kids in tow? Is it true there are a lot less kids on board? It stops at CC twice, as well as Nassau. Thanks. previous: Disney Dream October 2011 (11 grandkids and 6 more adults)
PopFla Posted April 18, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 18, 2012 We went on the one in '11. It was pretty nice, but with it being DVC's 20th anniversary, we expected a bit more. There were few Disney execs on board and only one celebrity, Joey Fatone, who was the emcee of the sales push 'show'. There were lots of gifts left in the stateroom every day; might be a good idea to take a large empty bag with you. What really made the trip worth it was the two stops at CC. It's interesting that the single 2011 cruise sold out completely in nine hours. This year, they're doing two cruises - a 4 night and a 3 night - and they still have vacancies this long after the first booking date. It is true that there were very few kids onboard. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd have to say the 2011 cruise rated about a 6.5~7.
KAR3600 Posted April 18, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 18, 2012 Hi! I cruised a few times with Disney this is my first members cruise and my first time on the Dreams! They give that many gifts that you need a separate bag?! In the past were they nice gifts? I had booked this cruise on Friday! They said there are rooms avaiable but only on the upper desks all lower cats. have been booked. Since I've been to Castaway already...I'm wondering if I made a mistake with 2 days there...not much of a "sand" girl

Since I've been to Castaway already...I'm wondering if I made a mistake with 2 days there...not much of a "sand" girl Yep. The first day, we got two little "suitcases" about the size of lunchboxes that were filled with small goodies. Another day, there were two boxes containing very nice wine glasses w/the DVC logo on them. There were other gifts that I don't recall exactly, and there were also Castaway Club bags with small items inside. We literally filled two large canvas totes with all the stuff. All nice stuff, not terribly expensive, but nice. Add to that the items you might purchase onboard the ship or ashore. Why not spend one of the CC days exploring the island on foot or on bikes (which you can rent on the island) and the other day stay onboard, exploring the ship in less crowded conditions, using the pools, and riding Aquaduck ? KAR3600 Posted April 19, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 19, 2012 Thank you PopFla! I will pack an extra bag!! Do they have the "chocolate buffet" on this cruise? I was hoping the cruise went to Nassau, I enjoy losing my money at Atlantis! LOL I wish Disney Ships had a casino, I think that is only thing missing...there is only so much "bar" sitting one can do. We also are going without our children and grandchildren this time. Found on this link a very nice couple who have been on several of these cruises and he is setting up a meet & greet for us "childless" cruisers.. His email is canadiandeernuts@hotmail.com He's been very helpful It is only stopping at Castaway twice, no Nassau. But believe me, you won't be disappointed. There are tons of children on board, but plenty of adult space too. You'll see Hope this is helpful and see you there! Ev
gramfrog Posted September 5, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted September 5, 2012 Thanks! Looking forward to the cruise! I saw deer nuts's posts on the Disboards, but I thought that was for returnees. They seem to all have been there before. I think that thread is closed now, or at least their group is closed. Any thoughts?

Some are meeting at the Aqua Duck at 4:45. There is going to be a sign. I'm hoping there will be a meet sometime around 3pm at Currents. This is an adult area and since some of us are going "childless" this time or for the first time, might be nice to meet here. Will probably head over to the AquaDuck anyway, but it gets so hectic with the sail away party that it will be hard. Hope we meet up gramfrog..Maybe Currents around 3? I'm going to keep watching the posts to see what everyone is doing. Can't wait!!! You'll love this trip.
