davedex Posted November 2, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2012 I guess no one has, but if anyone fancied giving some advice I'd be interested to hear as well Seven tenths of the world is covered in sea - that's a lot of cruising to do!
2irisheyes Posted November 2, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 2, 2012 We took the ship's shuttle which dropped us near Blankenberg train station. From there we took a train to Ghent (from memory about 40 mins). It is the same train that goes to Bruges (approx 20 mins). From the station in Ghent we took the tram to the centre - not very far and you could perhaps walk. We enjoyed Ghent. Walked around, went up the Belfry - good views of city - took a canal boat ride with commentary and ended our visit in a Bierhaus and enjoyed some Belgian beer followed by waffles on the way back to the tram for the return journey. It was a nice relaxing day especially as we had originally thought we would not bother getting off the ship. If you are interested google Belgian railways for times as I think they only ran hourly. We had just missed one so used the time to have a walk around Blankenberg. Good luck.
