How much deposit?

We did the Sun last year to Alaska and also paid the shipboard account with cash. They told us that we could put $20 down to start off with. Every day after that they would leave a note in our cabin saying that they required another $20. They charge the daily service charge every morning, so essentially, you are in arrears every day. At one point towards the end of the cruise I went to buy the souvenir video of that cruise and it would not go through, as I had not paid enough to cover it. It was a pain in the neck paying the cash every other day. I do not use credit cards for this as it is automatic and don't want any unauthorized purchase going through. On one cruise they had charged a bottle of wine to my account in error. I had never bothered to check the bill thoroughly and when I discovered it, it took a couple of days to have it removed.
