Just back from La Romana

Will be arriving in La Romana Nov 30...THanks for all the info on tours. Looking for group private tour. Where should I go to get van or tour operator. What is a must see and do while there?

@jwalk03 Hard Rock Cafe and the Hard Rock Shop in Punta Cana are inside Palma Real Shopping Mall (there is no direct access to the beach from there). With the new motorway the drive from port will take around 45 minutes. There are taxis at the port, but I don't know what they will charge as their prices are usually higher than the regular taxi companies who charge US$100 to 120 ONE way!!!.

 

You could try contacting a private transfer company like IBK Servicios and ask them for a quote. btw from 4th Nov EST (ship time) is 1 hour behind local time so take that into consideration when telling them your docking and sailing times. Email: ibkservicios@gmail.com

Oh and make sure you quote your destination as Palma Real Shopping Center and not Hard Rock Hotel which is even further away and requires a day pass to enter.

 

Public transport to either Santo Domingo or Punta Cana will involve mulitiple bus changes and will be a complete hassle if you don't speak fluent Spanish.

There is a good list of things to do in Bayahibe here under the "Tours" tab. Bayahibe is a quaint fishing village 15 minutes from port.

We did the Santo Domingo city tour and it took almost 2 hours driving time to get to the city from the port. Time wise, you would spend almost 4 hours of your 7 hour stay traveling back and forth.

Did it go to the square near the Hard Rock?

Our group went on the $5.00 shuttle. We shopped at the local flea market. Larimar is a blue stone supposedly mined in DR exclusively. They were selling necklaces, rings, and bracelets. The prices vary so shop around before you buy. There was Mary Juana (dried wood chips found in the area) that you mix rum, wine, and honey in a glass booze bottle. It was referred to as the fountain of youth. We were told this mixture needs to soak for three days before consuming and will cure anything and is an aphrodisiac. This is sold with the liquor or just the bark chips.

 

We ate at the Shishkabab Restaurant. It was an enjoyable lunch. We shopped at Jumbo for hot sauce and the local rum.

 

If you would like to take a taxi, then go to the left away from the people standing in line for the shuttles.

 

We had planned on going to Dreams, but the weather was cloudy and rained at times. We had fun exploring the area.

Hello everyone,

       Just want to ask if anyone has been to La Romana recently, the last year or so and taken the shuttle from La Romana port into town like was stated before. Is it still $5.00?, if not, how much is it.

 

         We are going to be there in March of this year and want to do our own thing. We speak Spanish, so we can get around on our own. The shuttle sounds perfect because we like to go to local flea market and perhaps go to the mall to get some souvenirs, some local food and stuff.

 

         Anyone have recomendations on local restaurants possibly near the beach? Can we get to Playa Caleta easily from the port? Are there also taxis At the port? What would cab from the port to Playa Caleta cost? Are there cabs at the beach also for return trip to port?
