PathfinderEss Posted September 12, 2012 #76 Share Posted September 12, 2012 I just got off the Amsterdam and we gave my friends this package. I can say that is was absolutely worth every dime we spent. Wonderful ceremony. Our friends anniversary was on the 5th of September and they did it on the 4th. There were 5 couples, done in the Crows Nest at 7:30 in the evening.
serendipity1499 Posted September 12, 2012 #77 Share Posted September 12, 2012 I'm the original poster so wanted to give a report. We did the renewal of vows last week on the Oosterdam and it was wonderful. It was done on our second formal night at 7:15 p.m. We had dinner first thinking it would be late if we waited. It worked out well except we didn't have room for the appetizers they offered us before the ceremony. But we did have some cake and champagne. It was just us and one other couple. The captain did a great job and he and the event planner spent time with us before and after the ceremony. We got some great pictures from the event as well. We received a complimentary picture, flowers for our room and a very nice binder/scrapbook to put our momentos and pictures in. Dinner at the Pinnacle Grille was also included and it was the best meal we had all week. We had our traveling companions attend the ceremony with us and they really enjoyed it too. Highly recommend this! :D Thanks so much for coming back here & telling us what a wonderful ceremony you had..Congratulations toyou both... IslandThyme Posted September 13, 2012 #79 Share Posted September 13, 2012 We did this last month on Maasdam and it was quite a special experience. It was on a port day though, done at 6:30 in the evening, and the Captain had to leave us not too long afterwards for sailaway. I honestly don't remember whether it was a formal night, because I wore my actual wedding dress (not a traditional gown, which would have been silly to pack, just a light chiffon dress) so it seemed formal to me. There was just one other couple, so it felt very personal. We both had tears in our eyes as we recited the vows, and the Captain seemed really to be involved in the meaning of it all. iriemon Posted September 14, 2012 #83 Share Posted September 14, 2012 Happy Anniversary!!! :) The vow renewal ceremony will make it one you won't forget! We have done it 3 times - Guess we are really married! Just an FYI if no one else has mentioned it (I didn't go through the entire thread) but the captain will have vows for you to say, but we have always written our own vows and that made it extra special for us and very personal. We just told the Captain before the ceremony and they have never had a problem with it.

Rockfan2 Posted September 17, 2012 #87 Share Posted September 17, 2012 I just got off the Amsterdam and we gave my friends this package. I can say that is was absolutely worth every dime we spent. Wonderful ceremony. Our friends anniversary was on the 5th of September and they did it on the 4th. There were 5 couples, done in the Crows Nest at 7:30 in the evening. We were one of the other couples at the ceremony. My DH surprised me and we attended with 5 friends that we met on the ship. We were celebrating our 30th which actually was on the 4th. We had been in the casino and were heading to Pinnacle for dinner when DH suggested we go to the Crows Nest for a drink. Imagine my surprise when we exited the elevator and head to the CN but the officer at the door to the private party says "Good Evening Mr & Mrs H". The tears started immediately. It was very emotional and will be remembered for years. Rockfan2
OneStrangeGuy Posted September 17, 2012 #88 Share Posted September 17, 2012 Just to give a contrasting view... When the ex and I sailed on Holland America we decided that it wasn't worth half of the fee they wanted.:) but that's just us, and, by the way, we're still happily divorced.

Lorideruyter Posted February 14, 2016 #91 Share Posted February 14, 2016 My hubby and I leave on March 7th, our 30th anniversary is on March 8th when we will be on Half Moon so we did purchase the vow renewal package. It sounds like it has been a great experience for all. No guests to attend with us so small and quaint. Really looking forward to this trip!!! :)

Really looking forward to this trip!!! :) We did the Vow Renewal last year on the Ryndam for our 30th Anniversary. No guests, no others doing a vow renewal, just us and the captain and photographer. It was lovely. Also, we were given a bottle of HAL's sparkling wine (which we don't like), so we took the unopened bottle and exchanged it for something we liked (I think there was a small up-charge). Have a great cruise!
summer slope Posted February 14, 2016 #93 Share Posted February 14, 2016 We are doing the ceremony on our cruise next month for our 50th. Something to add to the fact we have been together for that long. :)

daduruguay1961 Posted February 26, 2016 #95 Share Posted February 26, 2016 I want to surprise my wife as we will be cruising to Alaska in the Amsterdam this May 22nd, 2016 but It will only be the two of us cruising and I am afraid this renewal of vows ceremony will be ridiculous with no guests of the party celebrating? No problem at all. At ours, it was just the two of us, the ship's "party planner", the Captain and his wife. It was a very nice event and lasted about an hour. Most of the time we sat and chatted among the 5 of us.

ithaca gal Posted February 27, 2016 #99 Share Posted February 27, 2016 It sounds like many people have really enjoyed the renewal of vows ceremony on the ship. My husband and I did it on our first cruise, nine years ago and we were underwhelmed. The photographer took pictures of us in our "dress up" clothes and then let us know the next day that they hadn't turned out (?) and asked us to come for replacement photos with the Captain at 3:30 the next day. My husband didn't feel like putting on his tux for ten minutes of photos and the moment had passed. We went for the picture but the whole thing felt like a non-event. After cutting the cake, we spent 30 minutes chatting with the Captain while sipping champagne. Cheers!
