My fiancee had to get a copy of her birth certificate, and they gave her one of those new wallet sized ones. Has anyone used one of these before to board the ship, and did you have any problems with it?

As long as it was issued directly by a Government agency...you'll have no problems. Reminder, unless things change, United States citizens will soon be required to have a passport to cruise anywhere. For Caribbean cruises, in less than seven months from now. Mexico/Canada/Alaska [remember, you go through Canada to get to Alaska] by the end of 2006.

The smaller birth ceriticate will work, as long as she has a valid picture identification to go with it. Like a driver's license (NOT a Costco card). But the name on the driver's license must match the name on the birth certificate.

 

If by the time you take the cruise you have gotten married and she has changed her name on her driver's license from her maiden name to her married name, she needs to bring a copy of the marriage license, showing the name change. The marriage license serves as a link between the name on the birth certificate to the name on her driver's license.
