karenbeanpole Posted July 24, 2012 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2012 We are late in booking private group tours as they are now full unless we pay very high prices for smaller vehicles. We can still do the ship's own tour, but has anyone tried to do Taormina and Mt Etna on their own? Is it possible and easy enough or would you advise joining a tour? We are docking in Catania. mydreamvacation Posted July 25, 2012 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2012 How comfortable are you driving on winding mountain roads? Certainly you could rent a car -its about an hour from Catania to Taormina but the roads are for people much calmer than I am lol. We have spent many weeks in Sicily and I would definately suggest a visit to Mt Etna. Catania is a busy city without the charm of Taormina but there is still plenty to do right near the port Sicily Life is a good company
