Carnival Destiny generator issues

Onboard the carnival Destiny, and we are stuck at the port. The captain announced that one of the generators isn't working and that they are trying to fix it as soon as possible.

Sorry to hear this. I hope they fix the problem and you enjoy your cruise. The first think to pop in my mind when I read your post was this will all end in Sunshine. :D

I am very sorry to hear this, not a pleasant way to being your cruise. Hope they get it fixed soon and it stays fixed while you are at sea!!!

Thank you! We're making the best of it. The entertainment staff is offering some activities to keep us busy, and we have yet to explore the ship.

When on my cruise from New Orleans on the Fantasy, we had a similar issue except we had already left port and were about 4 hours underway. After about 5 hours of work, they got things up and running and are cruise continued with no delays, other then not arriving in the Gulf at midnight but rather at 6am, which was awesome to actually see.

I'm glad your cruise turned out well. It's better that this happened to us now than say on our way to half moon cay.

Oh wow! I didn't know that happened.

 

We have power. Everything seems to be working, except we can't leave. That announcement was made at 4:45pm, and we haven't heard anything else.

In 2000 the Destiny had power. All ship services were operational. The ship had no propulsion and was adrift. The weather was perfect so it wasn't really that bad.

And I just went to view the web cam first before logging onto CC (we sail two weeks from today so I'm obsessed!) and thought, "wow, they are a little late leaving" and then saw your post! Holy cow! This means you deserve extra pampering, so treat yourself well! Thanks much for posting (I think! :eek:)......

Cruise ships have multiple generators including a hot spare.

 

On the Grand Princess in 2005 we lost several generators at sea, including for a while all of them. We completed the cruise albeit the final leg was at about 10 knots. :eek:

It's interesting that you say it is beautiful weather out. I am on the Miami webcam and it looks dreary and grey (must be the camera...).

This ship had mechanical problems for quite a while .. off and on, they would say its fixed .. and 2 weeks later it was unfixed.. fixed.. no not fixed.

 

They finally had a emergency dry dock .. but this ship is known for mechanical issues.. has a bad reputation.. thats why prices are so low.

 

So bad, Carnival is changing its name. That alone has to tell you how bad this ship's reputation is.

 

PS Im not talking about problems way in the past.. I mean all the times they had problems 2 or 3 years ago .. so much OBC given out for missing ports, had to cost Carnival big time and people kept complaining if they know there is a problem why dont they dry dock it .. but take it out of service during whose cruise?? .. everyone wants it to be during some other persons cruise. ... but this series of on and off again was not that long ago.

Captain just announced that they fixed the generator and we shall be departing in 15 minutes!

 

It was raining this morning, and then the sun came out. Then it got a little cloudy but I think it's pretty good. Not too hot.

 

I had no idea this ship has had so many issues. Here's hoping we have smooth sailing!

I had booked in Jan 2010, then in Feb it started having issues and finally had an emergency dry dock to fix the issues. We still enjoyed the cruise, and I wish you good luck on yours
