Formal Night Every Night!

Let me give you a hint:

DON'T FOLLOW THE CROWD!

Do what makes you happy, and chart your own course on the cruise.

I own two black tuxedos, and two white dinner jackets to go with them, and a boat load of bow ties, vests and cummerbunds.

If someone wants to walk around with shorts and T-shirt, so be it. If your friend wants to dress to the "nines" so be it.

Pay homage to the ship, dress up, enjoy yourself, and don't worry about how others dress.

ENJOY!

Great advice! We love dressing up on our cruises!

I am so excited about dressing formal every night! I wear scrubs to work so any opportunity to dress to the nines I'm going to jump on it. Bringing an extra dress or maybe two is a fantastic idea. I like the idea of standing out in the crowd...lets everyone know that we are there to have a fun time! :D

I am a personal trainer and live in my workout clothes. When my DDs see me in shorts and a cute top they say " are you going out? You're all dressed up, Mommy"! That's one big reason why I love to dress up for dinner on our cruises and especially dress up for formal night. I rent my DH a tux from the ship and my "James Bond" man and two elegant DD's (10 and 12) have a grand ol' time strolling around the ship in our dazzling duds.

Have a wonderful cruise!!

HINT: Why do you think there are "black tie" events, whether on ship or land?

Regardless of a particular bow tie or cummerbund a man wears, it is so the MEN look somewhat the same, and attention is called to the WOMEN, who hopefully have common sense to dress well! Oy!

It's all dressing up 101, and a lot of people don't understand it and never will. :D

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks this way. There is nothing better then waiting on my wife to get all dolled up. I find a good fitting suit or tux very comfy  maybe its just me. And my gal LOVES it when I get dressed up for her (which tends to always work in my favor later on ) We are sailing Splendor in Dec. and plan to dress for our night in the steak house and nights we eat in the MDR, the nights we do buffet I dont plan to dress up.

Definitely lose some man points.

I disagree, just becuase you like to wear a tux or suit does not make you any less of a man. Look back in history what did MEN wear? Fast forward to today what do boys and wanna be men wear? If your going out to dinner at a nice resturant (on a cruise I consider the MDR a nice resturant), dress up, TAKE OFF YOUR HAT, and enjoy dinner.

We did that with another couple a few years ago on Celebrity...we used to socialize with them all the time at home, & the female of the pair was always dressed more formally regardless of where we went.

When I suggested we should take a cruise together they jumped onboard (hehe)...they had never cruised before. So I was talking about the cruise, & activities & excursions & formal nights, etc. & she said she was going to dress up every single night...was horrified at the thought of dressing down at all, lol. So, the guys were in tuxes & we were in cocktail dresses every single night! It was a Bermuda cruise & we drew alot of appreciative (& curious) looks in the DR. ;).

I'm so excited for you...have a blast! My next cruise is 4 weeks from today! And I'll only be doing 2 elegant nights! :D!

Always great to hear about a guy who loves to dress up! We have one on our Roll Call for our SUNDAY (yay!!) sailing on the Legend. He's going to dress in suits, ties, etc all nights. Excellent!

I love to dress up every night, too and am really excited for Sunday. All dresses and long skirts packed and the bling to go with them!

There is a group of us (4 women, 1 man--the other man backed out) sailing the Elation in 16 days out of New Orleans. The male friend sailing with us has never sailed before and he is really looking forward to formal night! I wasnt expecting such enthusiam LOL but am now even more excited about dressing up. He called to tell us that he has a tux with 2 jackets, 4 shirts, tie, and shoes--enough for the whole cruise! He asked if we minded dressing up every night and do we have enough dresses?!?! :D When do you have to ask a woman if she has enough dresses? LOL I am now doing an even bigger happy dance! Who else is doing the happy dance cause their cruise is sooooon?

Hi Cruisinhotmamma:)

What an uplifting, refreshing post. When my wife & I cruise, we always dress up for dinner.

For example; we view & dress for elegant/formal evenings as if we are going to a wedding,

followed by a night out on the town.

We view & dress for regular dinners as if we are going out to a fancy restaurant.

Have a terrific cruise!

:)

Also on Celebrity too, and on other restaurants on Cunard. I never understood why some folks think a tux is uncomfortable, aside from the price of buying one. They can be had at somewhat low cost too.

Just out of curiosity, why do you consider that to be a good thing?

He's lucky that all the other women like to dress up and have enough dresses - not all women do. I've been a stay at home mom/housewife for 22 yrs now and hadn't owned or worn a dress or skirt until our first cruise 4 yrs ago. I also don't like to shop and not into fashion. It is still my only dress (it's a sundress) and I wore it again on our cruise last summer.

Glad to see everyone is excited about dressing up every night. I'm sure you will all have a great time!
