Evangaline Posted September 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Is it possible to take the train between the Civitavecchia port and the airport? The cost of taxis and shuttles seem to be insane.

euro cruiser Posted September 15, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2012 Yes, you can, but you need to allow sufficient time and be able to handle your luggage. You may need to walk down a flight of stairs at the station in Civitavecchia (and back up the other side) to get to your track. The Civitavecchia train station is an easy one half mile (flat) walk from the entrance of the port, where the shuttle bus drops you off. All routes to the airport require a change of trains somewhere in Rome; the fastest and most direct routing (and the least expensive) is a regional train to Roma Trastevere, followed by a regional train to the airport. Total train time is between 1:30 and 1:50, depending on connection times and the fare is 11 Euro. If your flight is on an American airline (United, Delta, American) flying directly to a US city, your flight will leave from Terminal 5, which requires a shuttle bus ride from Terminal 3 (the airport train station is linked directly to Terminals 1 and 3), so you need to add time in for this step as well. Stelladoro Posted September 15, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We a retired couple and took the train to the airport, with a change at Trastevere. Very easy to do, provided you don't mind walking a few blocks with luggage. Purchase tickets at Civitavechia station to cover both trains. Also, the Trastavere station is small, easy to manage, and has an elevator to reach the correct platform for the train to the airport. We booked an early afternoon flight, to make sure we had plenty of time to get to the airport. Hope this helps.

kuldalai Posted September 16, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 16, 2012 The other route that requires more walking at the Interchange is tarin from Civitavecchia to roma Termini, then a route march to a distant platform to catch the half hourly Leonardo Express to the Airport . The best way is as recommended alraedy by others using regional trains with the interchange at Trastevere .
