No, don't mind at all. In fact, I usually turn around and then ask them to take ours!

No - in fact - if I see people taking pictures of each other I offer to take them for them so that they can be in the picture together!

I'm happy to do it and I take a few extra moments to compose a shot that they will be proud to show to friends.

The rest of the story......
Well, I will take pictures for other people. But, you have to listen to this little story.
We had booked an "Atlantis" submarine tour in Georgetown, Grand Caymens.
On the tender to the submarine. a couple asked me to take their picture with their camera. We were on the second deck of the tender. I sat my camera down on the bench seat, took their camera and took a snap. I gave their camera back to them. I looked for my camera. Oops, the bench had an opening between the seat and the back. Oops, there was no kickrail around the second deck. My camera wasn't on the bench, it wasn't on the 2nd deck, it wasn't on the 1st deck; it was settling to the bottom to become part of the reef. The couple, whose picture I had taken, said "Sorry." Another couple from our ship lent us a disposable camera and we went on. Luckily, I had just loaded a new film roll so we didn't lose any pictures.
We still take pictures for other people. WE ARE JUST A LOT MORE CAREFUL WITH OUR CAMERAS!!!!

I never set any camera down, I never simply hold any camera. I always and without exception put the strap around my neck so (a) I know where the spare camera is and (b) so I won't drop the one I'm using. Same goes with binoculars, camcorders, etc.

I'm so glad to know that others don't mind when we ask them to take our picture. On our first cruise we were alone as a couple and really wanted some nice pictures together. We did ask occasionally for someone to snap us. Everyone was always gracious and we are ALWAYS happy to return the favor for others.

On formal nights, I frequently use the timer on my camera to get photos of us in the cabin after we're all dressed up. When we're in the public areas, someone will usually volunteer to take our photo or we'll run into someone we know from the dining room and ask them to take one for us. One of the benefits of eating at large tables for breakfast and lunch in the dining room is that we meet lots of folks.

I often offer to take peoples pictures when passing by and I see one person taking a picture of three others or another person. I make sure the sun is behind me if possible and try to shoot a close up from the belly button up and try to get a little of the background in to show the location. I don't like shots from far away showing their shoes.

13 cruises so far - RCCL, Carnival, Celebrity, Princess, NCL, HAL (we were on the last cruise of the wonderful Norway, still have my room key)

I did that with some Japanese guy. They should have filmed us.

(a) He knew no English and I knew no Japanese.
(b) There was a great backdrop scene, a railroad rotary plow on a siding.
(c) First I had to get his camera, then I had to indicate the backdrop.
(d) After we understood each other --ha ha-- things went smoothly.

It's due out on video any time now. "Tom and Kato's Alaskan Adventure ... or ... You Want To Do WHAT?"

I know this is a little off topic.
I work in an Extended Care Facility. I frequently volunteer to take pictures so that everyone in the family can be in the picture. Many times this is the last picture they have of themselves and their loved ones.
We always do this on vacation. I can't imagine we will behave any differenly on a cruise.

On my first cruise, my Mom had asked a gentleman to take our picture together in our formal dresses.... he didn't mind a bit. But, we got home, developed the pictures, and I had no head! Always ask someone who appears to have an inkling about how to operate a camera! When my mother and I drove to the Grand Canyon, we asked another tourist to take our picture. We got lucky! He was Japanese or Chinese (sorry, I really don't remember, but it doesn't matter....)and didn't speak English, but understood our sign language, I guess. What a conscienscious (spelling?) and considerate gentleman he was... he had us all lined up, and was about to shoot, but then suddenly stopped, got up and moved some fast-food wrappers he noticed that would have been in the shot with us, then continued to take the picture. That was the best picture anyone had taken of the two of us, I think, with the beautiful Grand Canyon in the background.

It's a good thing he didn't use a hand signal that, over here, means "back up a bit."

When using the self-timer, we always end up with a few photos where one of us got cut off. I tend to take a lot more photos with digital than I did with film cameras because it doesn't cost anything (other than battery life) to reshoot a bad photo.

This past year once a day people stopped me and asked if I'd take their pictures! It was the strangest thing. I asked my husband was it some kind of omen??? LOL! Luckily I take a good picture and of course with the ease of a digital you can check you're proof right there and retake if needed. I am more than happy to help others!
