Canuckjammer Posted September 24, 2012 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2012 Just had tomorrows tour to Cinque Terre cancelled by Princess due to landslide between Manarola and Riomaggiore. I can't find any info online. Does anyone how bad it is or if it's still possible to tour there independently? Thanks for any updates! I'm currently on Ruby. Tenn4ever Posted September 24, 2012 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2012 There was a mudslide there last year which closed the trail. I think it's still being repaired. I don't know of a more recent slide.
euro cruiser Posted September 24, 2012 #3 Share Posted September 24, 2012 I just posted on the other thread about the rock slide (not mud slide) that happened earlier today: http://ansa.it/web/notizie/rubriche/english/2012/09/24/Survivor-Cinque-Terre-rock-slide-thanks-miracle-_7523340.html What port are you trying to get to Cinque Terre from? This rock slide has closed the lover's walk temporarily, but everything else will be operating as usual. Here is the official notice that the Via dell'Amore is closed until further notice: http://www.parco****onale5terre.it/news_dett.asp?id_prodotto=2876&id_lingue=
Canuckjammer Posted September 24, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted September 24, 2012 Ruby Princess will be in Livorno tomorrow. Thanks for the updates!
Delphinus_23 Posted September 24, 2012 #5 Share Posted September 24, 2012 From what I can tell it appears the national park website posted a notice that all trails for path 2 are closed until further notice (not just Via Dell'Amore). Here is the link to their website that has current trail status - http://www.parco****onale5terre.it/sentieri_parco.asp.
euro cruiser Posted September 24, 2012 #6 Share Posted September 24, 2012 Yes, that's correct, all walking paths between Manarola and Riomaggiore are closed. I generally don't think about the upper paths in this (CC) context, as I assume most tourists on a day trip are focused on the Via dell'Amore, not the more strenuous and difficult hikes. maryann ns Posted September 24, 2012 #7 Share Posted September 24, 2012 You can take the train or ferry between the towns.
Canuckjammer Posted September 24, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted September 24, 2012 Thanks for the updates. I got the train schedule and it looks like I'll at least take train to Monterossa for a couple of hours. seeing some of CT is better than nothing! Canuckjammer Posted September 25, 2012 Author #9 Share Posted September 25, 2012 I did manage to take train to La Spezzia, then another train to Monterosso. In my short time there I got to see Vernazza and Riomaggiore as well. The Via dell'Amour is still closed and all oth trails are currently unadvised. I'm currently on train back to Livorno. Thanks again for help and advice!
euro cruiser Posted September 25, 2012 #10 Share Posted September 25, 2012 I'm glad it worked out for you. Even a little view is better than none at all!
photorere Posted September 30, 2012 #11 Share Posted September 30, 2012 I was on the Pacific Princess a week ago and took this tour...it was the worst tour I've ever taken...so consider yourself lucky that you don't have to spend $147 to take the tour. We were in Manarola 10 minutes (I bought a postcard) did walk to Rioaggiore but didn't visit the town...they made us get on yet another boat to the first town (very dirty and touristy) where we had about 40 minutes to look around and have something to eat. Most of the day we were either on a bus, ferry, boat, train, and bus...then tender back to the ship. Take the train.
