transportation to Xel-Ha in Cozumel

This summer my family and another will cruise the Rhapsody of the Seas to Florida Keys, Cayman islands and Cozumel. We want to go to Xel-Ha and arrange the excursion ourselves. What would be the best way to get to Xel-Ha from the port and return later in the day without risking getting back too late.

I don't think you can very easily. I think Xel-Ha is about an hour south of Cancun. You would have to take a ferry from Cozumel over to Playa Del Carmen and get a taxi or some other ground transportation. It involves a lot of time, unless the ship doesn't leave until quite late.
