ashleyt Posted October 12, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 12, 2012 Hi, We are trying to decide between a DCL Fantasy Caribbean cruise and an NCL breakaway Caribbean cruise in early 2014. We would be traveling in concierge and the haven respectively. Our kids will be 9 & 7. We have only cruised once before, a short cruise on the Disney Dream to the Bahamas. Cost is a nonfactor. Any thoughts?
DISNEY FANTASY Posted October 12, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2012 The Disney Fantasy is a really fantastic ship we have had two cruises this summer on the Fantasy, I cannot compare to the other line as I haven’t been on that, but have been on RCI and also Princess. To help you decide you can look at my blog and photos of the Fantasy, see link below. We were in a concerige suite and they are really fantastic photos again in my blog. With your kids ages its a good time to sail DCL.
hencoll Posted October 12, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 12, 2012 Just going to copy and paste my response to your thread on the NCL Boards. :D We have sailed in concierge suites on all four Disney ships and in Haven suites on the Jewel and twice on the Epic. If it's for the most entertaining experience for the kids, I would choose Disney but if you are looking for the best concierge experience... NCL's Haven and perks, IMO, are so much better than the concierge experience on Disney. Our kids have loved their experiences on Disney but they also have had just as much fun on the NCL. My kids just love to cruise.
Donna_In_India Posted October 15, 2012 #4 Share Posted October 15, 2012 We're booked (family reunion) on the Breakaway for June. The kids will range in age from 4-15. The ship looks amazing. There will be tons to keep all the kids happy - the sports complex, the water park, and the kids clubs. What is really good is that the adults are going to be happier on this one - some will go dancing, some to the casino, some to the shows - but at least there is that choice. We're also booked on the Fantasy for Dec. 2013. We just did the Magic, which I thought was a little underwhelming. I didn't care for the food or worse the dining options, which won't be a problem on NCL. Disney is Disney. If your kids are super into it, it might be the last time a 9 year old will find it magical or maybe not. Only you really know.
darwinsrule Posted October 15, 2012 #5 Share Posted October 15, 2012 Depends on how 'early' in 2014. Over the winter you need to factor in the colder temps out of NY vs. sailing out of FL. The pools/water features I imagine will be pretty useless the first and last day out of NY at a minimum. Breakaway looks interesting but we are planning on doing it for the Bermuda run in summer 2014 when the weather is better.
