Sprint cell phones in the Caribbean

Does anybody know if Sprint cell phones will work in the Caribbean, specifically Grand Cayman and Cozumel? I realize there will probably be extra charges for long distance, and I may have to switch to analog roaming. I have called Sprint twice and got two different answers.

Thanks for your help.

We were told by sprint that we could make calls from Cozumel. However when we tried we kept getting a voice message that we needed a country code. We checked at the pursers desk and they had NO idea what we were talking about. This was after we had added Mexico to our calling plan. Our phone was useless in the Western Caribbean, however in the Eastern USVI we had no problem at all, no roaming charges or long distance charge.

I'd get in contact with sprint and find our EXACTLY what you need to call from you specific ports of call.

Hope this helped some....

If dialing a number in the US from another country, even on a cell phone, you must dial 1 or 01 first. you can not use just area code or your local numbers.

For example, if you are calling 999-555-1212, and the number in your cell phone book is 555-1212, you must append 1+999 to the number you dial, thus ending up with 1-999-555-1212. Some countries, (Europe plus others) you dial 01-999-555-1212.
