mw_1970 Posted December 13, 2012 #28 Share Posted December 13, 2012 It is indeed a VERY odd ship We had a really good cruise but the layout of EPIC is generally an utter shambles (in my opinion). Difficult to explain, just a very "messy" ship. Looks like it has been put together from about 6 different ships all chopped up and squeezed together. Gave us our first taste of NCL and we fell in love with NCL but I would never sail the EPIC again, although I will acknowledge that so far that is the best crew we have ever sailed with (in our short and limited cruise history so far). r121567 Posted February 8, 2013 #48 Share Posted February 8, 2013 Since the review obviously never got posted - I will give a short review of my Epic cruise in March 2012. First of all, the ship is HUGE and has a very different layout! I have sailed on the Carnival Magic which is also large but still had the same basic layout as every other ship I have been on. The rooms were very ODD. You enter through the bathroom, which is not really a room, just a space. The flooring is different, toilet on one side, shower on the other curtain straight ahead to separate the bathroom/entrance from the rest of the cabin. The sink across from the bed and very little room to pass in between the two. There was a lot of hidden storage around the sofa area. Our balcony jetted out a bit further than the one above us, which I noticed just as I was taking my shirt off. Luckily, I looked up before I disrobed and embarrassed myself! I found the rest of the ship well, pretty darn cool! Instead of the normal, long, straight hallways, there were a few curves. The casino occupies two levels with an escalator in the middle. A shopping area that had the feel of something like a mall. Barber shop, bowling alley, Irish pub, main lobby had a TV screen that spanned the better part of two levels with a dance floor that was populated every night. We enjoyed Cagney's Steak house - didn't try the other specialty restaurants. We found all of the food good, even the buffet. The spa was beautiful. Its always my favorite place on board. A bit pricey for the use of the facilities but the spa pool was nice. The Miami port is very efficient on embarcation / debarcation day.
