Maureenxx Posted March 22, 2013 #51 Share Posted March 22, 2013 We were on this cruise and didn't know anyone on board before we came on, but found everyone we met to be quite friendly. We made friends at Trivia, Bingo, and in the Casino. We sat at a large table for dinner in the MD and had a lovely time every evening with out tablemates who came from different areas and walks of life. I don't remember encountering anyone who was unfriendly. Don't know why you seemed to have such a different experience.

(I think I need to qualify this after all the snarky posts in this thread.) Did you join the cruise at the beginning or at a later point? We go back and forth from the full 73/78 day cruise to the 45-day segment.

I have been following their adventures for a few years and have to say that I was surprised at their observation. You might check it out on their thread John and Diane's Amazing Adventures, Part 4. ginger and professor Posted March 23, 2013 #54 Share Posted March 23, 2013 We did the 38 day segment of the cruise from Seattle to Australia then onto New Zealand and back to Australia, lat Oct. It was great. I can't remember any passengers names that we met. I could care less. We don't go on cruises to meet people or to impress anyone. Our reason for cruising is to relax and see interesting places. If you value a cruise on only the people that became close friends then I don't think the problem is with the cruise lines. Cherie[/quote] Yes, I did read that, and it concerned me at the time. Then along comes the OP, and I really started wondering if we would be uncomfortable on only a segment of the cruise. Ginger - No, we don't cruise to make "close" friends, although we have made several good friends on our cruises. But we do like to socialize with other people and one expects on a longer cruise that you will find compatible people with whom you occasionally share a drink or an excursion. And, we have always found that to be the case. I certainly would not enjoy a cruise where we would feel ostracized because we joined the cruise mid-way. That is why I am interested in hearing other people's experiences who do only segments of a Grand Voyage.
