Consider Hollywood Hotels instead of Ft. Lauderdale

Recommended Posts

If your spending a few days in South Florida before or after your cruise and want to stay on the beach, consider staying in Hollywood. It's just a few miles away from both the airport and port. Part of the airport and port are technically within the City of Hollywood: the airport is the Ft. Lauderdale/HOLLYWOOD International Airport and 80% of the port is in the city.

There are many small hotels along Hollywood Beach. Although they don't usually offer shuttle service, prices are so reasonable that it may be worth paying for taxis (about $15 - $20 from/to the port/airport), especially if you're staying more than a night. Many of the hotels along Hollywood Beach also offer full suites at prices comparable to a standard hotel room at one of the big chains.

The beach itself is fantastic, with a two mile broadwalk lined w/shops and restaurants. Restaurants are very reasonable: there are places to grab a slice of pizza, breakfast specials for $1.99 (two eggs, bacon, home fries, and toast) and $1 ice cream cones. The beach also has a bandshell where there is FREE live music three or four nights a week. There's also a trolley between the beach and downtown Hollywood that costs only $1 each way.
