there are casinos only on Dutch side and there are some on the street where all the shops are in downtown area--it is one block from the water--i think it is called Front street--

The others are taxi drive away. the one in the downtown area is an older casino probably geared to the local trade as opposed to the tourist trade--but I have been there a few times and remember winning most of those times

As stated above, there are some small ones right on Front street, near where the water taxi stops. We also usually win and leave. The video poker has better paytables than the ships.

In St. Thomas, I've never seen any casinos at Havensight but last month when we docked at Crown Bay, there was a small slot machine parlor at the dock area. Wasn't very exciting, dropped $20 and left. So I assume there is gambling in St. Thomas somewhere.

There are four casinos in Philipsburg. The two at the head of the street, near the Greenhouse, are the Jump-up and the Diamond. Jump-up is a little nicer but no table games during the day. Diamond has tables games all day.

At the other end of the street, walking left from the tender dock, are the Colosseum and Rouge et Noir. Both have tables open all day. Rouge et Noir is a bit older and has daily Hold-em tournaments at 1PM. It is the only casino I have ever seen with windows looking out over thew beach! Colosseum is a bit more upscale, at least for downtown P-burg.

All the others are in Simpson Bay or Maho, both long taxi rides from downtown especially if there is heavy traffic.

One word of caution...one of the local customs is topping your bet at a black jack table. You make your bet and they place their own chips on top of yours. The dealers will sort out the winnings, but I prefer to just play my own money. If you ask them not to do it, they will stop. Just don't be too surprised if it happens.

In St Thomas, the only thing they have are electronic gaming parlors. Generally they are pretty poor payouts. The nicest one is at the Wyndham Sugar Bay, with virtual black jack. I won a few hundred there on my last stay.
