DivotMaker Posted January 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2013 Hello all, wife and I celebrating 20 years together and taking a 12 night cruise around Europe in September. We just booked a few days ago, and need some help comparing promotions and would appreciate any insight from our fellow cruise specialists out there. Cruise 1: Category 1B Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah $1,000 on board credit Cabin is mid ship, deck 9 Cruise 2: Concierge Class Stateroom $300 on board credit Classic Beverage Package (we enjoy wine, soda, frozen drinks, and the occasional cocktail) Paid Gratuities for both passengers Total cost of Cruise 2 is $400 less than Cruise 1 Cabin is in very back, deck 9 Given this info, we're trying hard to justify not going with option 2. Anyone see a reason why cruise 1 might be a better option? Thank you.

Anyone see a reason why cruise 1 might be a better option? Thank you. Cruise one offers a mid-ship location. On the S-class ships. this can be advantage. On M-Class there are a a cluster of coveted "sweet 16" cabins on the aft end of the ship....they are highly coveted. If you select ship two you will do lots more walking to and from your cabin. If you don't mind that, I could be a good match for you. Will also give you double captains club credits for future cruises. The big determining factor for me is how willing am I to make to long walks to the aft end of the ship.
tmlove17 Posted January 9, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 9, 2013 We went through the exact same debate and found that with the beverage package, plus prepaid gratuities on a 12 night cruise *and* spending less was a much better value in the long run. Walking a bit to our room doesn't bother us, and we've had pleasant experience in the aft of a ship. Think of it this way: you can use the $400 you are saving on the cruise and invest it in something additional, like a cruise excursion or dinners out in the Signature restaurants! :)
Mulege Posted January 9, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 9, 2013 Definitely number two. Exercise is good for you and it's not that far.
biker1972 Posted January 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 9, 2013 Are you speaking of a particular cruise on one ship with 2 possible booking options and the choice of incentives? Celebrity (X) has 2 different classes of ships: M class and S class as well as the Century that is now alone in its class. Which ship are you talking about. Or are you speaking of 2 different sailings on 2 different ships? The second option seems to be a savings of about $550 and is in Concierge but it could be on an M class which would account for the lower price point. Cruise 1 is on an S class since M class ships do not have 1B cabins. Hard to make a call on this one until all of the details are available but since my wife and I are light drinkers, I would choose cruise 1 unless cruise 2 was in a CC1 cabin on an M class. CC1 cabins have much larger verandas on ships like the Constellation or the Summit than the CC1 cabins on the Silhouette or Eclipse. The "sweet" 16 cabins mentioned above are 2C cabins found on deck 6 (forward) of M class ships. They have larger than normal verandas but the cabin size is smaller than CC or Aqua on the M class. Iamcruzin Posted January 9, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 9, 2013 I will be a first time X cruiser on my next cruise so I can't help you with the ships. However I have cruised on other lines and something to consider is what and how much you will be drinking. If this was a Caribbean cruise I would say go with the drink package. Since you will be in Europe which is port intensive you have to factor in that you won't be on the ship much to drink. Many have stated that they are tired after a long day in port and tend to go to sleep early to rest up for the next early port day. Enjoy your trip. DivotMaker Posted January 9, 2013 Author #7 Share Posted January 9, 2013 Hi all, I completely forgot to give the ship info, my apologies. Both would be aboard the Celebrity Equinox. I may have jumped the gun though. Our TA said we are not allowed to "rebook" the cruise and that Celebrity will not give us the current 123 promotion. We found this offer online so it appears the only way to take advantage of it will be to cancel our reservation and choose a new date to cruise. Thanks again.
