sr5242 Posted January 22, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2013 I'm a seasoned royal caribbean cruiser, but I'm going on my second Holland America cruise in March. As a returning mariner, will there be any discount booklets or anything available on board? On royal Caribbean, they have discount booklets waiting in the cabin for returning members. Thanks
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 22, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2013 No Mariner discount books on HAL.
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 22, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2013 There is a discount book that some people claim they get from their TA's on certain cruises. We got them a couple of times -- and we asked our TA about them -- they did not come from her.

Rare geoherb Posted January 22, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2013 I received some type of discount coupon book in my cabin on the Westerdam last month. I thought it was due to our Mariner status. Our companion in the cabin next door did not get one. I let her use some of the casino coupons--a buy one entry get one free into the blackjack and slot tournaments with purchase. iriemon Posted January 22, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2013 We have gotten them on occasion and never really found them too useful. You need to buy something which may or maynot be what you want. By the time you buy something, the ship has already made their money on anything you get for "free"
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 22, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2013 We have never used any of the coupons.

Those booklets are mostly from the TA's. We've seen them but never used anything from one. We use PCC and they don't provide the discount books but that's okay. PathfinderEss Posted January 23, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 23, 2013 We have gotten the booklets several times from our TA but quite honestly I think we've only used the 5 dollar match casino play.
mllewis48 Posted January 23, 2013 #10 Share Posted January 23, 2013 Received them on our Prinsendam Holiday cruise but only used the internet minutes. Being a 4 Star the book did not do that much for us. Should have given them to someone that may have been able to use them?
Rare rafinmd Posted January 23, 2013 #11 Share Posted January 23, 2013 HAL's loyalty program is quite a bit different from Royal's. There isn't really a lot of stuff on board but the 2 biggest benefits for me are the lunch in the MDR on embarkation day and the Mariner Champagne brunch mid-cruise. At that brunch you will also get a HAL tile which I find kind of a nice souvenir. I haven't really used my coupon books on either (not sure I've seen them on HAL but the list KK mention sounds familiar). On Royal the only ones I use are the internet and perhaps the discount on 2 photos (Enchantment will be my first C&A Platinum and [Zaandam] Veendam will be my last as 2-star on HAL). HAL does have the internet discount but it applies regardless of Mariner status if you buy in I think it's the first 24 hours. Roy
SeaBands Posted January 24, 2013 #12 Share Posted January 24, 2013 for flowers, a robe and will use the same on the next cruise for flowers as we got 2 books.
grandgeezer Posted January 24, 2013 #13 Share Posted January 24, 2013 The best use for the coupon book is to put it under one of the legs, of the table on the patio, if it's wobbly. Other than that, just another waste of a tree.
OVgirl Posted January 24, 2013 #14 Share Posted January 24, 2013 Over 100 days on HAL ships and have never received a coupon booklet. Looks like we're not missing much.

startwin Posted January 25, 2013 #16 Share Posted January 25, 2013 There is a coupon book, but I've never found anything useful in it, without having to spend a fair amount of money first. The coupon book on RCI does have some handy coupons, especially for internet use on board.
