runnerswife Posted February 5, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2013 Does anyone know if any of the cruise lines (specifically Celebrity) offer some kind of bus service into Glasgow from Greenock? Can't find any ships tours into Glasgow and wanted to see the city. Thanks, Mary
atlasali Posted February 5, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2013 Last May, we were on Princess. We docked at Greenock, which is the most friendly, most accomodating port ever! We were greeted with a glass of Scotch (at 8:20am) and many volunteers who were most helpful. They provided 3 different, free, bus tours. We took the one to Gourock, as they said that we could catch the train to Glasgow from there. The bus tour was lovely and informative. They dropped us off at the train station with detailed directions to and from Glasgow. We so appreciated those folks! The train station at Glasgow is an amazing glass-paned structure. But, Glasgow is a modern city, not charming like Edinburgh. As soon as we arrived, I wished that we had stayed and done the rest of the tours! We walked to a Wetherspoon Pub and ate "steak & ale pie", got back on the train and headed back to Greenock. Taking the train to Glasgow was easy. Tip: the train station at Greenock is uphill from the ship and a bit of a walk. Our way was easier.

That's a bit harsh on Glasgow :) Yes, it lacks the palaces and castles of the capital, and it has an industrial heritage, but there are traces of its Medieval roots and most of the architecture is Victorian, with some rather splendid modern buildings too.
