Rare mare s. Posted June 9, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 9, 2005 we're going to have lunch with a Russian family (part of our Red October tour) and would like to take a small hostess gift...anybody done this and do you have any suggestions?
lysolqn Posted June 9, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 9, 2005 Did that last year when we had lunch with a Russian family while in St. Petersburg. We brought baseball caps for the whole family. They were a big hit and very much appreciated. I'd suggest you bring something typically "American" - perhaps something unique to the city, state or region in which you live. Remember, the folks you'll meet are just as curious about our lifestyle as we are about theirs. Enjoy!
Andee Posted June 10, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 10, 2005 It is my understanding (perhaps incporrect) that these people are paid for hosting lunch, and that they do it many times a season. They'd need another closet if everyone bought them US souvenirs!!
MSBYRDY Posted June 10, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 10, 2005 They don't host these lunches as often as one would think. We did it on our May 7th cruise last month and it was the first time for this family. When inquiring, we were told that most people don't do it and that it's generally about 3 times a season. At any rate, we brought knit ski caps from home with Chicago on the fronts of them. They seemed to appreciate them quite alot. Marilyn
Roimont Posted June 10, 2005 #5 Share Posted June 10, 2005 Is lunch with a family expensive?
Rare mare s. Posted June 10, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted June 10, 2005 We were quoted $18 per person for the lunch (there are four of us in our group) From others' reports, this was a highlight of the tour...we're doing it on the second day...first day we'll probably do lunch in a restaurant.
