wack001 Posted March 20, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 20, 2013 Just got off the Splendor while it was sailing SA around Cape Horn, put it on your bucket list. enjoy http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=217100
iceleven Posted March 20, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 20, 2013 I believe this was a one time only repositioning itinerary for the Splendor. She will now be doing the usual boring New York to Bahamas  She's a good ship and many will miss her from the west coast.

Your review says you boarded on the second leg but the Splendor is still on the third leg.

She will have competition this year, the NCL Breakaway will also be making that "boring" Bahamas run starting in the Fall.

You'd think NCL would give their new ship an exciting itinerary but thats not the case. Guess it's just what people want.

It isn't normal, but is the second time Splendor has been around the Horn. I was on the first cruise in 2009 when she was moving to the left coast. Starlight Durban Cruising Posted March 21, 2013 #11 Share Posted March 21, 2013 Word was that she only had to go back round the bottom of South America because she does not fit through the Panama Canal. Once the widening of the Canal is completed in a few years then the Splendor would fit through the Canal if she ever comes back to the west coast. Too bad, it is a GREAT itinerary, around the Horn was a TAD rock(many were sick) but once in lifetime, nice ship excellent service good casino but get there early if you wanted to play Texas hold them. wack001 Posted March 21, 2013 Author #19 Share Posted March 21, 2013 There were so many people on the ship complaining, so I thought I was on the wrong ship, average age 70+ and older(I am no sping chicken) people seem to complain more about any little item. Hope i did not offend anyone just my take. cruisinbob
Cyber Kat Posted March 21, 2013 #20 Share Posted March 21, 2013 So glad to hear a good review also! We're sailing on the Splendor out of NYC (not a "boring" itinerary - it includes a sail away from NYC, 4 sea days and a stop at HMC - LOVE it!). I loved the Miracle, but a new ship (for me) is always interesting. Question - do they serve sushi at the Sushi Bar? As dumb as it sounds, I've heard they are doing the tastings bar and you have to hunt the sushi down on the buffet. I mean wouldn't one expect to find sushi in the Sushi Bar :D
chipq Posted March 21, 2013 #21 Share Posted March 21, 2013 That definitely is a bucket list cruise and the Splendor will be missed out West. Thank for sharing your cruise. http://luv2cruise.blogspot.com
