texancruzer Posted March 29, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 29, 2013 We have and yes it is special. It is also located so you can walk all over OSJ. If you are staying over a weekend night be sure and frequent some of the neat music venues in OSJ. We went to two salsa bars one night and really enjoyed watching the locals dance. Salsa was invented here so they know how to do it !

Rare printingchick Posted March 29, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 29, 2013 We'll be staying right next door, at Villa Herencia, one night before our cruise next year. Looks like a great location.
LookingForward2 Posted March 29, 2013 #5 Share Posted March 29, 2013 We stayed there a few years ago and really loved it. I'm sure you will enjoy it - such a cool feel to it. Next month we are also staying at Villa Herencia which is very close (and less expensive).
Jettalinc Posted April 1, 2013 #6 Share Posted April 1, 2013 We stayed there in 2010 and it was amazing! Right in the middle of everything and directly across from the cathedral! We walked to El Morro from the hotel and it only took us a few minutes. You will love it! I recommend, however, do not eat at the restaurant with the outside access, very expensive and not very good. The restaurant in the courtyard, although fairly expensive itself was really good. Have a great time in OSJ!
psantho Posted April 5, 2013 #7 Share Posted April 5, 2013 We stayed at El Convento for a one night pre-cruise 2 years ago. It is a charming hotel. And, as others have mentioned, it is in a great location. If you have a few days there, you can look up San Juan walking tours on the Internet and create one on your own! I'm not sure if they still do this, but one of the things I thought was so special at the El Convento was that they held a free wine and cheese "happy hour" in an outdoor area on a mezzanine level that overlooked the Cathedral and park. You could help yourself, and if you desire a stronger drink, they have an honor system. You look up the price of your cocktail and leave the cash. It was just so relaxing, after a day of travel, to be outside enjoying a little wine and cheese. It was a great way to start a wonderful cruise!
