Matt&Heather Posted April 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2013 Beginning to get excited for our trip on the Gem one month from tomorrow (!), our first NCL cruise. I've met some lovely bartenders on past cruises- I'd love to hear any recommendations from any recent Gem cruisers on which bar to patronize. Equally important to being able to make a great drink is a good sense of humor and conversation when the bar isn't slammed. :) Thank you! A1SusieQ Posted April 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2013 Best Bartender on the GEM is Anna in the Casino. She will remember your name and drink from day one. She always has a smile on her face and made small talk when I sat at the bar. Sent from my DROID Pro using Tapatalk
Matt&Heather Posted April 3, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted April 3, 2013 Thank you, SusieQ! :) Follow up question on that one...is the Casino very smoky? My husband and I are non-smokers, but I have enjoyed the casinos on other lines (they had smoking and non smoking areas). -Heather
youngestof9 Posted April 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2013 We loved Erik in the spinnaker lounge but that was 18 months ago so not sure he's still there. Loved him. Great personality and great drinks.
A1SusieQ Posted April 4, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 4, 2013 Yes the casino can be quite smoky when it is crowded at the night. Not as bad in the day. Stick to slot machines or tables near the entryways. There is cold air blowing the smoke in the casino to lessen the effect on the hallways. Tiggertastic Posted April 4, 2013 #9 Share Posted April 4, 2013 I have to say that Selsa Augustin Nestor at the Balli Hi is wonderful, as is Rene (sorry forgotten his last name) Tell her Jan with the broken elbow says hello We had such a laugh with Selsa and on a cold day she would come into the spinnaker and check if anyone wanted a drink fetching from outside too
spidybabe Posted April 4, 2013 #10 Share Posted April 4, 2013 Casino staff is def the best... I totally agree about Anna being wonderful..Great drinks and even better Pina Colada's. She will remember your name and drink...sometimes she told me what I felt like drinking...LOL Great conversationalist when not busy. We are going on the Gem again in January, and we are hoping Anna and Levi (other casino bar staff) will be on that cruise. Drink smartly..but remember No driving on a cruise (just lots of stumbling back to cabin) ENJOY!!!:)
emcee207 Posted April 4, 2013 #11 Share Posted April 4, 2013 We thought Marcel (I'm pretty sure that was her name, has glasses) at the Java Cafe was a sweetheart with a great smile, lovely personality and a good bartender/barrista. Always called me by name.
Tiger55 Posted April 4, 2013 #12 Share Posted April 4, 2013 The casino staff ruled, always felt great getting drinks from them, within a few days they will no your name. I cannot remember the male bartender from our November cruise, but he was greatl. I had a few nights where it was a long walk to our Aft cabin, thank god the Blue Lagoon was a hop, skip and a jump oops i mean a stubble, zig zag, and stutter steps away from his drinks :D

sebas030 Posted April 4, 2013 #14 Share Posted April 4, 2013 If you are looking for a cozy place to hang, not to crowed and want to have THE best drinks the Gem has to offer..... Then Jim at the Bar city ( magnu's bar and martini bar ), deck 6 mid.It is right next to Le Bistro. Jim sure knows how to please your pallet. Him too will remember your name, drinks, and where he left off the conversation the night before. All bar staff rotate every month. They all have new assignment every month...sometimes they stay at the same bar but that is not often. They rotate in order to be equal in "tips"...a busy bar is a good $ maker bar. Have fun
