jessed Posted February 13, 2014 #1252 Share Posted February 13, 2014 Had a great first cruise on the splendor. Only down fall our balcony cabins 8399-8403 had the smallest connection door ever it was at most 12 inches so if you need connecting balconies these rooms are not the best choice. We are booked in a room a few doors down from where you were. Was there any noise from the Lido restaurant above you?

Lauriejl2 Posted February 17, 2014 #1256 Share Posted February 17, 2014 Is there enough water slide fun on the splendor ? I'd like to go on the ships that have the big water park zone but driving from buffalo to NYC will be a quicker drive to go on the splendor. I have 4 kids..... 13,11,6 and 4 will there be enough kid fun for them?

I was looking on youtube and there seems to be a splash area for the younger kids. My 3 and 4 year olds are really excited about that!

Hope you had another wonderful trip. I'm wondering if you found chicken fingers the last time around, lol. Seriously though, was everything as great as it was the first time around? We're finally getting closer to our voyage and now I'm starting to get more excited.
Crusin Karen Posted April 18, 2014 #1259 Share Posted April 18, 2014 Yes, we are leaving ON our ann'y of 5/12, the day after Mother's Day. This is the lst time in years we will be home on that day. My kids have a couple of years to make up for! ;) No, Splendor still doesn't have the chicken fingers :( but we enjoyed her very much the 2nd time and looking forward to going on her for the 3rd time! This will be a really different cruise for us because it's the lst cruise in YEARS we haven't booked a balcony cabin. That BIG OV stateroom on deck 2 was available and to save some $ and just to do something different, we booked that. We are always on deck 8 also, so it will be different being so close to the water. I am SURE we will miss the balcony and SURE that we will miss not being able to just "run up the stairs" to Lido, but it will be an experience!
Jimmy Geegitz Posted April 18, 2014 #1260 Share Posted April 18, 2014 I don't know about sailing Splendor. A nurse on a recent cruise caught a cold and it was her worse cruise ever. It was Carnival's fault too.

Another CC member just came back from Splendor and loved it! It does suck getting sick on vacation. But it happens."

razzzbere Posted May 1, 2014 #1265 Share Posted May 1, 2014 Sailing on Splendor in 3 days!!! May 4th-12th. Balcony cabin 6316. Has anyone had that area? Also wondered if you can use parts of the spa w/out having to purchase a pass? We sailed on the Glory a few years back and they had a great hot tub area for our use. Thanks! :D
Cyber Kat Posted May 1, 2014 Author #1266 Share Posted May 1, 2014 We were on the Splendor last June and I loved it! We're going to Bermuda this year (we try to go every other year because it's expensive), but I was feeling cruise deprived and I found a 5 day cruise on the Splendor that leaves Labor Day (Sept 1) so I only need to use 4 vacation days. I'm psyched! I have a couple of questions for those who have recently been on the Splendor ... Do they still have real trays in the buffet or have they switched to the plates-pretending-to-be-trays? Do they still have the Mongolian Wok? And what group is currently the "house band?" We love Music Unlimited and they were off on the Miracle for our last cruise :(
nurse@sea Posted May 1, 2014 #1267 Share Posted May 1, 2014 My Dh and I will be sailing on the Splendor this coming Sunday. We have never sailed Carnival before and are looking forward to something new. Our good friends will be traveling with us, so Im expecting a wonderful cruise. I started reading these threads to see what kind of experience we would receive. So far, I have seen the worst reviews to the best reviews. Im gonna take them all with a grain of salt. Last year I agonized over picking the Royal Princess because of the scathing reviews. It turned out to be one of the best cruises I had been on and was very pleased with the ship. I will thank everyone for all their positive comments. For those who disliked the ship or had a bad cruise, Im sorry. We are sailing in three days...woo hoo! Doesnt get better than that!! Crusin Karen Posted May 3, 2014 #1269 Share Posted May 3, 2014 Kath, if you are still reading this: we are going on the Splendor again on 5/12. I am a SDM! Why don't you see if there is a "pack and go" rate and jump on board! We are booked in that huge OV on deck 2. First time we have EVER not had a balcony since the olden days of Zenith and Horizon. But at least we will have 2 windows. Have also ALWAYS been on deck 8. I am going to be "lost" way down on the bottom of the ship!:eek: Don't think I will be running out of the cabin and up a deck of stairs for a cuppa to bring down to my balcony every morning!

We are going to Bermuda in July and I booked us on the Sept 1 Splendor to Canada cruise because it's only using 4 vacation days. It leaves on Labor Day. Ship looks empty if anyone wants to join us! I'm hoping for a price drop! Sorry to hear about the demise of the trays  Guess I will have to pick up a small cheapo one and bring my own! Cyber Kat Posted May 3, 2014 Author #1272 Share Posted May 3, 2014 My Dh and I will be sailing on the Splendor this coming Sunday. We have never sailed Carnival before and are looking forward to something new. I've always been a Spirit class gal, but we sailed on the Splendor last June and I LOVED it! Takes a little getting used to because the galley blocks several of the decks, but if you remember Deck 5 is your friend - you'll be fine. Also if you're really in a hurry - use one of the cabin only decks 6, 7 or 8 - they go from bow to stern with no blocks. I can only compare Carnival to RCI's Voyager of the Seas, and I prefer Carnival - but that's JMO. The shows were much better on VotS - I've got to give them that, but I don't cruise for the shows. I wrote up a huge review of our Splendor cruise last June. I don't have the link handy, but if you search on my user name it should come up. There are also photos in the link on my sig. Hope you enjoy the Splendor as much as I did!

Oh, I am so glad you are able to go to Bermuda again this year. It's the most BEEE UUUUU TEEEE FULLLLL place! Thinking we just MIGHT book a Canada cruise while we are on Splendor next week. It would have to be end of September/beginning of October. I am bummed we are not going to have a CCL ship in NY for such a long time which is why we booked this coming cruise. Trays: great minds think alike....I was going to bring my own tray also, but was afraid I would offend every other passenger on the ship. :o Really wasn't too traumatic with the big plates, only problem was that you had to either get your drink lst, or get your food, then go back for your drink. BON VOYAGE to you and hope we can hook up someday. Maybe on the Pride from Baltimore??? Would love to have an aft wrap on deck 8 Spirit class one more time! ;):D

I thought Carnival was just giving up on the idea of having a ship sail from NYC in the winter months, but that we would have a ship from spring to fall. We wanted to book the NYC to SJ and SJ to NYC B2B, but then they cancelled all those 2015 cruises :( I booked the Canada cruise mostly to cruise on the Splendor again. I am soooo looking forward to Bermuda. It's so great there! Bon Voyage to you too! Let us know how your 5/2 cruise goes. What's the itinerary?
