PacificMountain2012 Posted April 10, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 10, 2013 Barlovento was recommended to us by a number of crew members. It on Calle 80, more or less across the street from the Dominos and the market place, as I recall. Enjoyed our food there before going on a tour. WisRiver Posted July 1, 2013 #6 Share Posted July 1, 2013 We spend part of the winter in the Progreso area, and a reliable restaurant we frequent on the Malecon (beach) is Flamingos. It is about a four block walk east on the Malecon from where Calle 80 meets the beach. You can sit on the beach under shade and the waiters will cross the street to serve you. adiostours Posted July 2, 2013 #8 Share Posted July 2, 2013 What do you suggest at Flamingos that you've been happy with?
WisRiver Posted July 2, 2013 #9 Share Posted July 2, 2013 I like the pesce (fish) cerviche. I cannot eat shrimp, but other people like the mixed cherviche. I also like the fried fish. Other people in our group liked the enchiladas suise (white cheese sauce). The botanos (bar snacks) are great. I think their menu is on their web site. WisRiver Posted July 2, 2013 #10 Share Posted July 2, 2013 My mistake in previous posting. Flamingo has no web site. Look at the reviews on Trip Advisor. Some positive, some negative, nevertheless, a place you should consider.

susan4272 Posted July 2, 2013 #12 Share Posted July 2, 2013 I ate a a really informal place across from where the buses let you off. It is called the Sun & Surf Cafe. It is run by American locals and most of the diners were American locals as well. The fish was the best thing that I ate the entire trip!
