jjdmom8 Posted June 18, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2005 I had heard that Carnival had a cruise ship that was completely non-smoking. Anyone know which one that is, so I can make sure not to book that one? lol Thanks
calm_seas Posted June 18, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2005 I had heard that Carnival had a cruise ship that was completely non-smoking. Anyone know which one that is, so I can make sure not to book that one? lol Thanks If I rememer correctly, it was the Paradise. However, I think Carnival discontinued it as completely non-smoking when it was transferred to the West Coast to do the Mexican Riviera cruises. kenandlaura06 Posted July 13, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 13, 2005 I wonder why more cruise lines haven't tried the non-smoking ship thing---most of America seems to be going non-smoking, anyway????

Rare LHT28 Posted July 14, 2005 #7 Share Posted July 14, 2005 Some are more restrictive than others . We were on Orient and Oceania and they only had 2 designated smoking areas. No smoking in cabins or balconies on Oceania.

Happy ks Posted July 14, 2005 #9 Share Posted July 14, 2005 Almost all ships now have no smoking in the restaurants and show rooms, designated areas in lounges and pool areas. Casino, forget it, it is filled with smoke (even with the filtration system). A non-smoking ship sounds like heaven. I wish hotels could clean the smoke smell out the rooms like cruise ships get the smoke out of the cabins. No matter what hotel we stay in, you can always smell old stinky cigarettes. I hate to think what the smoking rooms must smell like!

Cruisin' Chick Posted July 20, 2005 #11 Share Posted July 20, 2005 "A non-smoking ship sounds like heaven." We went on the Paradise in March 2001 and that's how we had described it to others: heaven. You didn't see burns in the carpet. You didn't smell that stale smell when you pass by any cabins. You didn't worry about being up in the fresh air on deck and all of a sudden get a barrage of that terrible tobacco smell. It was great for families. Unfortunately, Carnival didn't do a very good job of publicizing to the public and marketing to TAs. Maybe they were missing out on some secondary revenue (fewer addicted types onboard) but then that's a plus to a lot of us. Another problem is that it was kept in one area (the Caribbean). If it was offered on the West Coast as a non-smoker ship, it would have done better, imo. We compared it to another Carnival cruise we went on some years before that with a "World Bingo Tournament." Talk about addicted people. Many were obese, chain smoking types. You didn't want to be standing in the way of the dining room or the casino when those places were opening. kenandlaura06 Posted July 20, 2005 #12 Share Posted July 20, 2005 In MA, where I live, you can't really smoke anywhere, so I am not used to being around smoke anymore.
cruisinforabrusin Posted November 7, 2005 #13 Share Posted November 7, 2005 Carnival stopped the non smoking ship due to the ship was leaving port half full and that it was losing $$$$ on it.
OhioJeff Posted November 7, 2005 #14 Share Posted November 7, 2005 Carnival stopped the non smoking ship due to the ship was leaving port half full and that it was losing $$$$ on it. It NEVER left even 3/4 full. They did have to discount fares to fill it up. No cruiseline would ever allow a ship to sail half full. Paradise just didnt make as much money on liquor and casino sales as the other ships.
m steve Posted November 9, 2005 #15 Share Posted November 9, 2005 I don't smoke but my friend does and we always book a veranda cabin so she can have her cig when she gets up and late at night. I think Oceana is losing people by limiting smoking to 2 outside deck areas. She is not going to get dressed before coffee to go have a smoke. We usually try to book a cabin aft or as close as possible to not bother other cabins. Oceana seems like a line we would like but this policy is too restrictive. Even Disney isn't that bad. What's wrong having smoking on balconies or in certain bars?

I think Oceana is losing people by limiting smoking to 2 outside deck areas. I don't think so ..most of the cruises on OCEANIA are sold out. There are a lot of NON-smokers that prefer this type of limited arrangement. You can smoke in the Horizon lounge and pooldeck (corner)
tjflory Posted November 26, 2008 #17 Share Posted November 26, 2008 Be patient a little longer fellow non-smokers. Non-smoking employees who work in smoking environments are beginning to sue and win (BIG) lawsuits against their employers for health/death issues. Soon it will no longer be cost-effective for cruise companies to accommodate smokers. TJ

NevadaHiRoller Posted November 28, 2008 #20 Share Posted November 28, 2008 Well Celebrity is the most restrictive of the main stream lines, which was my favorite line that I cruised most often. Their smoking policy is the tightest where you can't even smoke on the balcony. They lost my business.

momofmeg Posted December 10, 2008 #22 Share Posted December 10, 2008 I do not necessarily want nonsmoking ships-but I do think it would be nice if one side of the ship was non smoking only-for example if starboard rooms are non smoking, port rooms could be smoking. I also see no reason why a person can not bring up a thread they are interested in-that has nothing to do with negativity. I much prefer that to a person starting new threads. yakdaddy42 Posted February 15, 2009 #24 Share Posted February 15, 2009 I dont want to be on a smoking cruise ship. I do feel it is ok to enjoy a cigar on a open deck aft so as not to bother the rest of the prudish cruise mates with the aroma of a fine Cuban cigar, or a nice Mac a noodle.
