Hi there,

We have booked to stay at the haven 2 bedroom family room on the ncl pearl. We see it is in deck 14 so i wanted to know if only people staying in the haven staterooms can access the deck? is there security? I have a sister staying in an inside stateroom so will she be able to visit us? I know the haven get to embark but since she is part of our family can she come down with us or will we have to wait for her?

The Haven is accessed by your "card key", which is specially encoded.

You can bring your sister up to your suite but the courtyard area is reserved for only those booked in The Haven.

You would have to "escort" her up to your cabin. Though she is not entitled to use the shared space in the Haven area, it might not be an issue. During our cruise, it was empty all the time. One extra family member, especially if that person was helping manage your three children might be welcomed (not officially though).

Your bigger issue is that you get special breakfast and lunch dining options and she CAN NOT join you.

As stated by PPs, the door at the top of the stairs has a key card lock. Also if taking the elevator your key card is required to access that floor, and if I remember correctly, you will also need to use your card to access the actual Haven once on the 14th floor.

As others have stated, your sister must be escorted by you to access the 14th floor on the elevator or the door at the top of the public stairway. Additionally she will need to be escorted by you to gain entry into the courtyard haven area in order to be brought to your room. She is not allowed to use the courtyard or sun deck above the courtyard. Additionally she will not be allowed to share breakfast or lunch at Cagney's.

While you may be able to get her into the courtyard area once or twice, the butlers, valets, stewards and concierge very quickly learn who is allowed and who isn't. If they find someone abusing the rules, expect them to be challenged and escorted out.

If she wants Haven privileges, she needs to pay haven prices.

Depending on the concierge, he or she might make an exception and allow your guests to use the haven facilities. Maybe not everyday but it all depends.

My cruise 12/31 on the Gem I was staying in the haven and my friends were in a 2 bedroom suite and I escorted them up to show them my room and we were practically attacked by an NCL crew member who started screaming at me that I shouldn't be in the Haven and I had to leave. As soon as I showed him my key he calmed down but it was very embarrassing for my guests. I was rather annoyed and told the butler because the concierge(ryan) was as useless.

What if I tell them my sister is helping me with the children? I am paying for her stateroom in order fit her to help me with the kids

Just curious why she isn't staying in your haven suite with you?

The last time I stayed in a Haven suite there were Haven guests who had family staying in an inside cabin on a lower deck. They frequently brought them up to the Haven area to hang out with their kids. (It was a couple with a child). The Haven concierge and staff were not happy but the Haven guests were insistent that they had paid for the family members room and therefore should be allowed in. It made for a rather unpleasant situation for all. They frequently took up loungers, they used the pool as their splash pool, they were out there all the time. The other Haven guests complained but it still went on all week. I never saw them in the restaurant for breakfast or lunch nor did I see the butler or concierge serve them any food in the Haven area. They did eat off the plates of their family members though. I think it really depends on the staff, how busy the Haven is and how insistent you are. The "rules" are such that it is not allowed, but as I saw it has occurred. I will say that they were frequently asked to leave, which they did, but they always returned a few hours later. They were rather shameless and just kept repeating their story-over and over.......

She is allowed in your stateroom and elsewhere on the ship, but likely not in the Haven space, nor at Cagney's breakfast and lunch. Depending on your kids ages, they will likely rather be at the main pool anyway, so you can all be together there. If you want her to be guaranteed Haven privileges, you will either need to book her a Haven suite of her own or have her stay in yours.

OP, this is a very touchy and sensitive subject for those who pay to be in the Haven. As you know (because you have a room in the Haven) that it's very expensive compared to the inside.

It's like a family of 4 going to a buffet and only one persona pays for the full price of the buffet and the rest of the 3 orders soda. Would the other three have any right to go and get food from the buffet, even though the one person who ordered the buffet paid for their sodas?

In the same way, there must be a reason why you're only paying for an inside cabin for the other person and didn't want to pay the full Haven suite price, am I correct? But unfortunately, that strategy is unfair for the rest of the Haven guests.

For those of us that pay the high cost of the Haven (including yourself), it's a bit unfair that someone who didn't pay for it gets to enjoy the perks of the area.

You can cruise in a suite and spend time with family and friends in a non duite cabin. It is doable.

You either entertain them in the confines of YOUR suite, never in the suite common areas or you hang with them on their turf.

You can meet up with them after you have had Cagney's breakfast and lunch and before or after you enjoy the haven area OR you can choose to dine with them in thd MDR Or buffet and hang at the pool or another non-suite venue, forgoing your perks for a while in lieu of company.

It is frustrating to read people suggesting "just go ahead and ask"... Because as someone who would NEVER ask it just comes down to a few things really...

If everybody did it, how would that work out? Yeah, sometimes there might be room but other times not and how do you discriminate?

Does this put the concierge in a tough spot?

How do you draw the line? How many guests are too many?

I've just booked our first Haven cruise, and I can tell you that I would be SUPER annoyed if I noticed fellow Haven guests letting people in.

And I think it's incredibly selfish to not only try to sneak people in, but also putting the NCL Haven staff through the discomfort of having to add to their already busy day the unsavory task of asking the non-Haven guests to leave.

End rant.

Ditto.

The s6 I booked on Breakaway costs almost double what we usually spend on a balcony or mini suite cabin. I'm paying for the privacy and limited access that the haven provides, and it does not entitle anyone else to this privilege. We pay, we get it. Period. Would people try the same thing with Vibe? I don't think so.

If I see someone trying to pull this stunt, I'll be taking it above the haven staff to the HD.

Ok, my rant is over too ;)

But....what if something happens like what's stated in post #9? What can be done? Do we just suck it up? It sounds like the staff couldn't get the family to leave no matter what they did! That's why I'm a firm believer that no one should be allowed into the Haven area unless they paid for that privilege. I want to relax in peace and quiet....a real vacation away from the chaos of work. I'm sure the prior post is atypical of visitors to the Haven, but why take the chance?

Hi there,

We have booked to stay at the haven 2 bedroom family room on the ncl pearl. We see it is in deck 14 so i wanted to know if only people staying in the haven staterooms can access the deck? Haven guests use their keycard in the elevator to access deck 14.is there security? Not the kind of "security" in terms of a uniformed officer. But there is staff coming and going frequently on deck 14 and in the Haven area.I have a sister staying in an inside stateroom so will she be able to visit us? Yes, she will need to go with in you the elevator, or she can call your cabin from any phone and you can meet her on a lower deck and escort her up to 14. She is free to spend her time with you in your cabin, but not in any common areas of the Haven. Please understand that this area is reserved for Haven and above suites and the area can be very crowded if these and only these cruisers were using it at the same time! I know the haven get to embark but since she is part of our family can she come down with us or will we have to wait for her? Because our reservations were "linked" with another couple who were not booked in the Haven, they were allowed to check-in with us and the staff invited them to join us in Cagney's for embarkation lunch. This was the week after Thanksgiving, a non-peak week. They were also invited (not prompted or asked by ourselves) by staff to dine with us during the week at Cagney's for breakfast and lunch. They knew going in that this was not a perk they had paid for and we dined by ourselves each day and met up later in the morning and afternoons.

I hope I've been able to answer your questions. These responses were to our time spent on the PEARL!

I for one will not be sucking it up. Will take it to the highest level if need be. Imagine if every one of the forty plus suites decided they each had a valid reason to bring one or more additional family members in. No the haven resources were planned and priced with a specific number of people mind.

If something like this keeps happening, you can bring it to a higher level by contacting the Concierge or even the Hotel Director. Not sure this is something I would do, but if the guests were being bothersome or the Haven was crowded I might. If necessary, they can get ship security to take care of the issue.

I suppose if people continue to abuse it, they will even restrict visitors. Perhaps, that's how it should be. No Haven key card, no entry.

Just like the beverage package. If one person buys it, everyone in the room has to buy it so that someone is not unfairly sharing. Same concept.

Just move your sister into your Haven suite (get a bigger one if needed) and all would be solved.

Or - consider a non-haven 2 bedroom suite with an inside across the hall. You have the same room and suite privileges without the concern of having your sister in the haven areas. And, as one poster said - your children will probably want to be at the main pool anyway.

Hi all! This issue has come up on the boards several times, and I just want to add my feeling that I love the idea that guests can visit friend or family Haven cruisers in their cabins, but that it is not fair for those guests to visit and use the Haven facilities.

In an airplane, an economy passenger can 'visit' their friend/relative sitting in first class for a short time (usually ONLY standing in the aisle), but they are not allowed to take a seat that is unoccupied and utilize the perks that the others have paid for.

I think this is the same for the Haven. If a Haven passenger has friends/family sailing in rooms outside of the Haven category, invite them to the cabin only and not the Haven complex. People pay a lot more money for the use of those facilities and it's simply not fair for other passengers to be able to use the facility without having paid for the perk.

Honestly, this whole discussion makes me a little confused because the rules are clear.
