Green Grotto/Dunns River Falls

We did this excursion thru RCI when we sailed the Freedom.

When we arrived at port we were escorted to the buses.

About 18-20 of us filled a mini van....comfortablbly and there were some left over seats.

We were driven to the caves.

Upon arrival, the bus driver told us we could leave our towels on the bus it would be locked. There was a concesion area, and clean restrooms. We bought bottled water here.

Note: Take small bills we bought 3 waters and used a $10 bill and got Jamaican money back.

We were given helmets. Instructions and lead into the caves. The tour guides were very knowledable and shared their information. Wear sneakers or sturdy shoes you walk over uneven ground, rocks, but, it makes the experience.

At the end you get to go down..down...down to the undrerground lake....I wish I would have taken a small flashlight to see better.

After this excursion we were back in the bus for a short ride to Dunns river falls.

The driver said we could leave anything on bus, he would stay with it. We left our tennis shoes on the bus and put on our water shoes, and kept our towels with us as well as our sea pass, and water wallet.

We were lead down a nice walkway showed to the locker area, and you can rent one for a nominal fee to put your towels. We kept our sea pass and money with us in a water wallet, and took a water camera.

We were then lead down another walk way to the steps and to the beach and started the climb up with a local guide.

It was ok, did it once, probably wont again. Some areas were slippery others had holes, watch your step.

At the end we tipped the guide.

Oh When we were done tour bus guy told us to use the restrooms and meet him back at the bus...

When we went to the restrooms (Clean and modern) the local vendors were in the pathway. If you did not buy anything they were verbally aggressive, and really let you know it! I kept walking and did not look back and one elderly lady really shouted. Oh well, we moved on.

Upon arrival back to the bus, everyones belongings were safe, and the bus driver stated he never left the bus......... (working on his tip).

Enjoy.........

Glad we did it..........

Safe travels

I loved the spirit of Ochio Rios, but one thing I did not like at Dunn's River Fall was the activity of the many drug dealers who arrived by jetski. The 'security' personel who was patrolling suddenly disappeared when they showed up. Also, the strong smell of weed was constantly present at the beach.

Also, be prepared to be lead through a maze of shopping stalls with people grabbing you by the arm. I understand people live of tourism, but this was beyond my imagination. It was worse then the streets of India.

While this is a beautiful scenery, it's my least favorite port of call I've been to. But then again, this is probably due to the bad experience.
