To put it simply, environmental activists wants the big ships out and away from the Venice lagoon.

Another protest by those that are anti cruise ship's in the lagoon. It's not the first protest and it won't be the last.

This was a planned 3 day event and should not be a problem for next weeks sailings.

 

Fantasia left port basically on-time, while Costa was delayed a couple hours. They both made Bari as scheduled.

The chances are that the Venice authorities will build a new cruise terminal outside the lagoon. They won't want to lose the cruise trade and yet have to appear to be sensitive to environmental concerns.

Tim ... I recall a few ships having docked at Maghera just up from Venice due to Fog and the passengers taken by bus to Venice.

 

Maghera also being the home of Fincantieri shipbuilders.
