Kicked off Mariner in St. Thomas

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know why a family was kicked off the Mariner of the Seas in St. Thomas on the 5/29/05 sailing? We heard drugs or fighting but not sure.

Just curious...we were late leaving St. Thomas by about an hour or so.

I was getting on the ship just as the family was getting off with there luggage and I asked the guy "Are you not going to finish the cruise with us?" and he said "our kids got us kicked off." so I guess there kids got into a fight and they kicked them off.

Either the family must not have caused the delay or Dolphin-dan was late getting on.:D

That's really sad that children have no respect for how hard their parents worked to give them a vacation. :(

I hope it was enough of a financial hit that the family revisits their children's discipline. My kid would be grounded for a month at least if her behaviour got me tossed off a ship. I would hope that the kids involved in this faced at least SOME consequence and didn't just get home to tell their friends how "cool" it was to be thrown off a cruise ship.

Glad to see RCI step up to the plate once again and take care of people that do not respect others. Too bad other cruise lines don't follow this policy. I would have never tried anything like this when I was a kid. I would not have been able to sit down for a year by the time my dad finished with me.

Ugghhh On the other hand i feel sorry for teh parents becasue sometimes kids do stupid things... even when they know better.. and even whne you are standing right there...i just hope they the kids stepped up and took responsibilty and did not just shrug there shoulders...

When I cruised HAL, the captain actually made an announcement over the intercom at breakfast one morning shortly after arriving in our port that a family had been escorted off the ship for "breaking the rules clearly spelled out in the cruise contract." He stated it was regrettable but that he would not hesitate to do it again if circumstances warranted.

I was on this sailing and on the fourth day noticed many dents inside one of the aft elevators that had not been there previously. Another passenger told me that a family had gotten into a huge fight in the elevator and that they were put off the ship. Sounds as though this may have been accurrate information, although I have no way to confirm this. If true the kids just may not be totally to blame.:(

I agree with cruisingator2 - I am glad the RCI is enforcing penalties for unacceptable behavior. I have witnessed some behavior on past cruises that I thought should have been dealt with - not much excuse for verbal assaults, physical intimidation or destruction of property. Just because you paid $xx.xx for this vacation does not give you the right to abuse others and destroy things.

There were many many teens on this cruise and RCI seemed to be serious about keeping things under control. To my surprise the conduct rules and consequences were right on the front page of the Welcome Compass. Also my daughters, both over 21, were repeatedly asked to produce a picture ID before being able to buy drinks.

For a month???? Mine would be grounded until they worked and paid off the cost of having us thrown off! Can you imagine the price to fly home on short notice and probably had to get a room there, plus transportation and meals! It is sad they didn't appreciate the trip any more than they did and they must have done something pretty bad to be kicked off. I think I would have told them to just lock them up in the onboard jail and I'd get them at the end of the cruise!!

I don't put all the blame on the kids. The parents have to be held responsible for this also. If they were doing what they were supposed to do then they would have known where and what their kids were up to. Also I believe if kids are taught when they are young to respect other people and their belongings it goes a long ways to keep stuff like this from happening. Again as I mentioned in the post above, I know what my dad would have done to me and that alone was enough to keep me from doing anything to put my families vacation in jeopardy.

I agree with you the parents were just as much at fault as the kids.I am sure they were warned at least once before the captain put them off. I'll bet the family thought the captain was just bluffing about being put off the ship. I guess they found out the expensive way,he wasn't kidding. The other cruiselines should take note of RCI policy on this.

Carnival is also one that needs to adopt something like this but they never will due to being afraid that they will lose a customer or two. They would allow kids to raise hell and tear up a ship rather than put the families off at the next port of call.

I guess Captain Johnny on the Mariner doesn't play around. Back in March he put two or three families off the same week for breaking the code of conduct. Again good for him.

I agree about Carnival. We were on the Miracle during spring break last year and there were ALOT of kids on that ship. In fact I think they told us it was 500 over the two per cabin capacity. We were the 4th or 5th group to sail on her and we noticed kids tearing around in the elevators at all hours. The saddest thing was that there were awesome murals in the elevators and about mid way through the cruise we noticed that someone had scratched out the people's eyes on all the murals in every elevator. I hate to accuse kids, but I am thinking that this was the work of these kids messing around in the elevators. What a shame that people have no respect for property and haven't had anyone teach them the value and beauty of art! :(

Another good reason to leave the kids at home

This argument could be used for all groups.....

Next thread about smoke one could say "Another good reason to leave the smoker at home"

Next thread about a drunk one could say "Another good reason to leave the drinkers at home"

next thread about....................

Next thing you know you will be the only one on the ship!

I have had some conversations with ship personnel, including members of the security staff. The ship personnel are very forgiving of disruptive behavior, so you know to get kicked off, the kids must have done something REALLY bad. In many cases, the security personnel are saving the disruptive guests from themselves, ensuring they don't do something so stupid that they get kicked off.

I have never seen someone kicked off, but we did have a comedian one time not return to the ship (thus missing his second show of the week) because he got busted for drug possesion in Nassau. It was a real shame because he was one of the funniest comedians I have ever seen ANYWHERE. He had the entire theater on the ground, rolling with laughter.

Good for the Captain! I really wish other cruiselines would adopt the same policy. I've been debating about which line to book our next cruise. This is just one more reason I may choose Royal Caribbean.
