Did Gratuities go up?

I just switched my 2B cabin to a 1B and the grats are .50 more per person per day. Perfectly OK with me....just wondered if I missed when grats went up.

Yes they did. A couple of months ago. We paid the higher gratuities in May and June.

I think they not only went up recently but that Celebrity also has stopped publishing the breakdown of how they allocate these between the staff.

The gratuities are:

 

$12 per person per day in staterooms

$12.50 per person per day in Concierge Class and AquaClass® staterooms

$15.50 per person per day in suites

Just wondered.....for the remaining cruises I have deposits on with the pre-paid grats mandatory for Select Dining....the amount listed is the "old" amount. Do you think X will honor that rate or will my final payment be adjusted? Not that it matters to me, just wondered how they would handle it....

That I don't understand or care for. I may be in the minority but I always like itemized receipts for everything. It also makes it feel like it's closer to a service charge rather than a gratuity.

Your gratuity rate was locked in when you booked, so you will pay the old rate, unless you make a change to your reservation that impacts the gratuity. Rates went up in March, I believe.

I think the threads will continue until Celebrity cops to the fact that "prepaid gratuities" is really an oxymoron. They should just call it a service fee and be done with it, or, better still, just include it in the price and let people pay tips optionally like they used to.

Happy Cruiser, Did you have prepaid gratuities? We do for our next cruises and so far the amount has not changed, even into our April 2015 cruise.

We sailed in May and there was a notice that said if you prepaid before April 29 (i think) you do not owe the difference. Sorry, can't remember exactly where I read it but remember thinking I should have prepaid!

They are already charging you if you choose MTD option or if you are wait listed for MDR(main or late). At final payment, you pay. Not sure if you can adjust once on board as we have no problem paying the standard gratuity.

 

What a great way to give staff a raise and not have to pay for it!

Booking didn't lock in the old rate, only paying them in advance did i.e. they weren't going to chase you up for the 50c/person/day difference.

They service is really great and they deserve the tip. I feel bad not tipping more and plan to this next cruse. I appreciate the clarification
