Chair Saving- can I just move their stuff?

Thats awesome. I also read on a thread that some folks had actually made signs for their chairs and stuck them to their seats. The signs apparently had their names and cabin numbers. Can you believe the gall???

Yep....I read that, too. If I would have seen that, I would have moved their stuff and plopped my big butt in the chair....just on principle, whether I wanted to sit there or not! Some people do have a lot of nerve!!!

Hey Crazi: I read over on the Destiny thread that your ban was lifted. I see it didn't take you long to get back to your trollish behavior.

I am just sticking up for what I think is right. I don't find that to be mean behavior, or rude behavior.

Also, to what you said before--I thought I had a lot of courage, but you guys seems like you have a lot more than me...so kudos to you...

I just feel a certain way about certain things, and deck chair saving is something that I believe in...

All I can say is that you can believe in saving deck chairs all you want...but the policy still is "no saving chairs", whether it's in the lounge or on lido deck. Just don't be surprised if someone moves your stuff and sits in the chair you've been saving.

Well, I know that you carry it there. I just don't understand how people don't hear you in the middle of the day. Please go into more detail, as I am utterly confused.

I lick it slowly, as to savour every part of it. I try not to get the cones as they make too much noise. I hope this ends your confusion.

It doesn't take much to confuse you, does it? :p

Maybe I'm just too easy going while on vacation (because I'm certainly not the rest of the time ;)), but I don't think I will get into an sort of scuffle over a chair. The aggravation just isn't worth it to me. I can and will find somewhere to sit and veg (read drink).:)

Question-is it hard to get any chairs? Or is it simply harder to get a chair close to the pool? I am not interested in being on top of people by the pool so I have no problem being farther away from the pool area.Just want to know what am I up against in a few weeks with all this chair hogging nonsense. Thanks!

Is Having a towel on a chair while your in the pool, considered 'saving' a chair?

I really wouldn't think so - I would consider those chairs occupied. But leaving your towel there while you go eat lunch, gamble, etc. is - in my opinion.

I think that is what I am being confused about too. I am thinking that it is hard to get one near the pool, which is why I think it is hard to move a chair.

Otherwise, I give up.;)

good luck on that ice cream!:p

I've really never had a problem getting a chair. I like one close to water, just so I can cool off. Depending on the ship, there are showers in various places....which is good enough for me, I don't need to be right by the pool. But it is annoying to go up on deck, eat breakfast, go get my stuff to lay out, and still...after more than an hour, the same stuff is sitting on unoccupied chairs. If there were no other chairs available, I wouldn't hesitate to move someone's belongings.

No. It becomes pretty apparent that someone's just left to get something to eat, take a dip, go to the bathroom, whatever. It's easy to tell the difference between a chair that is actually being used versus one that has been sitting empty all morning....except, of course, for the book/towel/sunglasses that have been sitting there.

How about this:

Deck chairs with a little clip on 30 minute timer. You get up, you set the timer. So anyone walking around sees a chair w/ no one on it can look at the timer. If it's at zero, you get the chair.

The purpose isn't to eliminate chair saving, but to discourage it enough that you're not alienating the ones who play by the rules. And where this would really payoff is those 7am chair savers who put a flip flop on each chair and then come back at 10am.

Of course it's not perfect- there's cost involved, for one. But it's an idea worth pursuing I think.

Anyone else have thoughts on my idea?

I've never had this issue, but I cruise during Sept or Oct and go to the topless deck. There are always lots of chairs up there. Pete- it might be hard to move the chairs from the topless deck to the lido deck and go unnoticed though- especially if you're also carrying ice cream :)

If I ever travelled during the summer you bet I'd move stuff if it was obvious that the stuff was left out there hours earlier though and there weren't enough chairs anywhere else to lay out on. My guess is that I'll never have that problem on the top deck no matter what season I travel.

Actually, it's a common practice at the resort I visit in Jamaica that you get up at 7am, put stuff on your chair for the day and go back to sleep. Everyone just accepts it and chooses another chair though. There is no rule and no one moves anyone's belongings. They also have plenty enough chairs for their occupancy levels though.

IF you're in the pool, restroom, etc. it is saving, not hogging.

IF you're in the casino, it is hogging.

Ever see people collecting luggage carts at an airport fot the quarter refund? These days, each towel on Carnival is worth $22! :D

{who care's about the chair?}

The idea has merit, but think I would modify somewhat.

How about in conjunction with, a shock neck collar (or some other body part) being associated with each chair? After X minutes Y distance away, a gentle reminder - after Z minutes it shocks the bejesus out of you? And of course, if you go more than R distance away, the time factor becomes not?

On our recent cruise in May I encountered the same problem. I literally sat down at a chair that only had a pair of flip flops on it...it and the chair next to it, were the only 2 chairs available by the pool. I have a 6 year old, and wanted to be close, so going to the upper deck wasn't an option.

I sat there, waiting for the person to come back. I sat and sat on the very end of the chair, as to not "take over" the lounger.

I eventually asked the girl next to me if anyone else had been there? She said she, herself, had been there for 4 hours and that no one had ever sat there, or in the chair next to it... that had only a magazine on it.

Long story short, I moved the shoes and the magazine to a small table nearby, and took the chairs for my DD and I. My daughter and I stayed there another 2 hours, and never saw anyone come back to retrieve the shoes or the magazine.

So, yes...you can just "move their stuff" In some situations ;)

It would be easier to just move the stuff!;)

THIS is a hilarious one! :D
