conwakr Posted August 19, 2013 #51 Share Posted August 19, 2013 I rarely wear them. I have two pair when I have to wear jeans for a jeans day at work when it would be uncomfortably conspicuous not to have a pair of jeans or for knocking around in the woods with friends, but that's about it. I agree there are so many other options available for pants. Plus they are too heavy for travel and torture if wet.
slidergirl Posted August 19, 2013 #52 Share Posted August 19, 2013 I agree in most cases. In this case, for the jeans to not be suctioned to my legs, the waist would have had major gapping, which is what I want to avoid. So even though they were listed as for curvy figures, they really weren't. There is more to it than just "curvy" or "not curvy". If they were suctioning to your legs, you were probably trying on "curvy" skinny jeans. Yes, they exist. There are types of cut: skinny, straight, taper, boyfriend, bootcut, flare, trouser cut. You sound like you want to find a curvy trouser cut if you don't like the jeans touching you anywhere. Why do we all seem to have problems finding jeans we like, but we can pull any old "pant" or "trouser" off the rack and be OK with them???? I can do Old Navy's skinny jeans so I know the difference :) Suffice it to say, I typically have better luck with jeans not labeled as curvy. I also have to try on at least 10 pairs of dress pants unless I just buy my go to brands/styles. I'm always willing to at least try on new brands though! I'm going to be near an Eddie Bauer store in September so it's worth a stop in to see anyway. Edited August 19, 2013 by Ehpride

Yeah, I'm with ehpride - dress pants aren't necessarily any easier for me to find flattering styles than jeans are except when I stick to brands that usually fit my body. I also agree that continuing to try things on is important - new brands, brands adding new fits, changing bodies over time, etc. (weird things happen too - Talbots pants fit me great - their jeans, not so much. Ralph Lauren jeans fit me very differently than pants. Eddie Bauer 15 years ago fit me great. Now? Not so much. And so on....)
smtcan Posted August 19, 2013 #55 Share Posted August 19, 2013 I wear jeans much of the time now that I have found some that fit me. On a trip to UK Marks and Spencer per una jeans were recommended to me, and they fit perfectly on my mature figure. I now order online and they ship free to Canada and US. That is fine if you know your size, but no good for taking a chance. I have gone from hating jeans to loving them, in different colours, full length and Capri style. Rare cruisemom42 Posted August 19, 2013 #56 Share Posted August 19, 2013 I like jeans in theory, but not so much in actual practice. I really haven't worn them much since college and although I usually have 3-4 pairs in my closet, they don't really see a lot of wear... I am fanatical about fit and what I hate about jeans is that it is difficult to find a "standard" that you can keep going back to. They all seem to change up the styles nearly every season. For years I've heard about NYDJ and have tried on many MANY pairs in different styles -- but just this year I finally found a pair that fit me and looks good on me. They are hanging in my closet. Have I worn them yet? No -- not even once. Here's another example: I recently was in Europe for 3 weeks (combination cruise/land travel) in the spring. I was trying to pack light but had room to fit one or two more items. My sister couldn't believe that I wasn't going to bring jeans and she made me think I should, so I stuck a pair in. I never wore them! Why do I avoid them? They just don't seem very comfortable relative to the other pants I have in my wardrobe (mainly Talbots gabardine for work or their various bi-stretch styles for a slightly more casual look). And if I'm off hours, something like yoga pants (Chico's Zenergy line is a fave) is much more comfortable. For travel, I like J Jill Wearever pants in black. Always look good and feel like you are wearing pajamas. They also pass muster for an evening dinner out in Rome when dressed up with a nice top. slidergirl Posted August 19, 2013 #57 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Jeans are an integral part of the lifestyle where I live, in the mountains. We have a running joke done by the Mayor on ads for dining in our town - "mountain semi-formal is clean jeans, boots and a hideous Hawaiian shirt" (If you see all the men in their late 40s-60s around town, you'd understand the Hawaiian shirt thing). My jeans don't see the light of day in the Summer, but will come out if I'm going out to dinner. They are front and center in the Fall and Spring. In the Winter, they alternate with my fleece pants (nice looking ones from Athleta, not sweatpants) and some heavy canvas Carharts (gotta love Carharts). I did take my jeans with me to Italy this May, but like cruisemom42, I didn't wear them. It was just too hot and humid that week (for me) to wear them. I did have them on at the end of the week in Paris, though - perfect weather for them!!! Jeans, white Tshirt and my new leather coat - perfect!!!! PrincessMelody Posted August 26, 2013 #58 Share Posted August 26, 2013 I love jeans! It is hard to find the right fit though! I'm tall...5' 9", and 140 lbs. with a small waist and bubble butt. Most pairs I try on that fit my rear and thighs end up gapping at the waist. The ones I've found that work for me are Lucky Brand Sweet n Low, Joe's Jeans Honey, True Religion Billy (have to size up in these), and J Brand. I'm always looking for new ones to try! :)
chrislynnet Posted November 5, 2013 #59 Share Posted November 5, 2013 I have several pairs of jeans but I only wear one of them, since I really do not like most jeans! I'm in the mountains too so wear my pair on hikes, and when riding. (I ride western, you really need jeans for that.) Since I subject my poor pair of jeans to pine trees and saddle leathers it's not exactly right for going to dinner.
ducklite Posted November 5, 2013 #60 Share Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) I wear them when it appropriate to do so. I had them on yesterday around the house as it was chilly. I've never taken them in a cruise, but do take them when we vacation in the mountains. Constricting? Not if they are the right size and fit for your body. I love one particular style of Lauren jeans, been wearing them for years. I've lost more weight and need new ones in a smaller size though, so right now they don't look great and I'm constantly pulling them up. I guess there are worse problems to have. :) Autocorrect responsible for most typos... Edited November 5, 2013 by ducklite
sherilyn70 Posted November 5, 2013 #61 Share Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) I love my jeans!! I couldn't live without them. My absolute favorite is Coldwater Creek's knit jeans. If you have never tried these on then give them a chance. They are stretchy but not spandex type stretchy. They are comfortable, breathable and move with you and conform my your shape. Most people buy them in 1-2 sizes smaller than their normal size. They come in a variety of cuts and fits, I get the classic waist with a bootcut leg or a regular leg... didn't like the skinny version or lower waisted ones. They come in petit, regular, long and go from tiny to plus sizes. They also come in a variety of colors (not just blue/black). Armchairtravelwoman Posted November 5, 2013 #62 Share Posted November 5, 2013 I've worn Lee Riders Relaxed Fit for years. I have no interest in tight-fitting jeans and these are very comfortable for everyday in Colorado where jeans of all kinds are ubiquitous. I can see where the very fashionable ones would not be first choice for comfort! The only cruise I've taken jeans was to Alaska.

I can see where the very fashionable ones would not be first choice for comfort! The only cruise I've taken jeans was to Alaska. Yesterday I had on Guess low rise boot cut jeans. Very comfortable, not constricting, and the only problem I have is that they are too big due to weight loss. If your body type and figure work for them and they are the right size, low rise or skinny jeans (I don't wear those latter) are not at all uncomfortable. If anything they are usually more comfortable as they are usually made with a lighter weight denim. I hate "relaxed fit" as they are way too baggy in the hips, butt, and thighs for me. They look like clown pants on me! Autocorrect responsible for most typos...

Gunner22aa Posted November 8, 2013 #65 Share Posted November 8, 2013 A mans view. I'm not a huge fan of them either. I prefer Dockers, Denver Hayes or a like for casual wear. I do however own a couple of pairs that I wear for yard work and some of my hobbies where I would ruin casual slacks.

Then you don't have good fitting jeans. My husband feels that pants are pants, and all are equally comfortable. I feel the same. It's a matter of finding the cut and size that works for you. Nelie Posted December 12, 2013 #68 Share Posted December 12, 2013 Jeans too heavy, chafe in long plane rides. Take up too much luggage room. I also feel I look heavier in them. I think they are out of place on ship unless white. Most of us Americans look lousy in them. BUT the Europeans look great in those slim leg fashionable ones. Oh wow. This had me laughing. Well i am Australian so how do jeans look on me. Oh wait i have a European background so maybe i look fashionable. Ha haa. Actually I did notice when i was asking for fashion help and what to wear i was surprised when jeans weren’t suggested. Maybe it is cultural thing. Or different countries have different styles. I have been on 3 cruises. Hawaii, South Pacific and Alaska. I have brought jeans and worn them on all 3 cruises. I think the south pacific was the only place I didn’t wear jeans during the day. I did however wear jeans on all 3 to the main dining room!!!!! I think the issue is that “JEANS” is such a broad term. I love jeans to me they are so versatile. but I agree with a lot of people who said they hate them. It is hard for me to find a decent pair of jeans to. I have a whole drawer full of them. Skinny, straight. Blue, purple, green pink. Black, black wet look. Cheap thin jeans, expensive thick ones. And I still think I need more. Not all are suitable for different situations. Today was 19c / 66 f tonight and I wore my blue thin cheap ones down to the beach for a picnic dinner of fish and chips. Wore them with pink haviannas and a t shirt and threw on a blue fleece when we got there and it was windy. Have no idea what I would have worn instead of my jeans. Where its an Australian thing or just the people I know but I’d say woman between the ages of 15 and 35 would say that 95% of the pants in their wardrobe for either casual or dressy wear are jeans. The other 5% is likely to be leggings cargo/combat pants or trackpants/ sweat pants for lounging around on the couch on a cool winter day.
Nelie Posted December 12, 2013 #69 Share Posted December 12, 2013 These were taken in October 09 on our Hawaiian cruise. We were off ship for the night at a Luau but I wore jeans. As you can see other were in shirts and shorts but I wasn't hot in jeans. With a nice top, lai as an accessories :) and nicely done makeup and i think the jeans look okay. You might feel differently and that's totally okay.
Nelie Posted December 12, 2013 #70 Share Posted December 12, 2013 And of course all of the pics of me in my jeans are only of my top half. LOL Maybe ill go look at some of my official photos and post some of them. This was not taken on the cruise it was taken in LA about 2 weeks before the cruise. It was definitely one of the outfits I then reworn to dinner. (We were in the US for a month 1 week on Alaskan cruise) I am wearing black skinny leg jeans with this top and heels
Nelie Posted December 12, 2013 #71 Share Posted December 12, 2013 Okay so neither of these pics were taken on a cruise either. However it is an example of me wearing skinny leg jeans out to dinner/ casino/ partying. I would wear these outfits out to the main dining room on a cruise. In both i am wearing my black wet look skinny leg jeans

slidergirl Posted December 13, 2013 #73 Share Posted December 13, 2013 It all started going downhill when Laura Petrie was shown wearing pants around the house. Before that, women followed Ms. Cleaver, Donna Reed… :D I'm a jeans woman. I don't apologize for it. I can dress it up as much as anyone else, but I prefer jeans. A crisp white Tshirt, a black leather jacket (or a black down jacket in winter), a scarf, black boots (or a tall pair of Sorels if there is snow on the ground), and I think I look da*n good in my jeans. And, I am on the FAR side of 50… I, for one, would never want to go back to what we had to do in the 50s and 60s as women...
SunshineCruise Posted December 16, 2013 #74 Share Posted December 16, 2013 I love jeans. I wear jeans almost all of the time and I live in Florida. In the summer I wear capri jeans. There are so many kinds of jeans, different fabrics, weights, and colors. Some are stiff, but most jeans have at least some spandex and they can be very comfortable. Some jeans are made out of very light weight fabric, so they are not hot. And they can be dressed up or down. I do love my jeans. : )
