Providing passport number when booking a tour???

Hi,

 

We are in the process of booking a tour in Greece and the provider wants to know our passport numbers. Is that common practice? I've never had that request made and have booked numerous shore excursions myself. Just wondering what others' experiences have been. Thanks!

I have never provided or had to show a passport for a private tour.

It is not common practice in Greece.

 

It is in Vietnam so the tour guides can enter the port but not in Greece.
