What can we do in Progreso on our own for a couple of hours?

That's enough time to walk the beach and visit some of the shopping areas if you have patience to deal with the street people

Get a couple of cervezas and ride the double decker bus for $3 PP.. Go to Buddy's , get a table by the water , have some more cervezas with chips, salsa, and guacamole.

We went to Buddys on our last trip in April and it was horrible. It was so bad that we walked to the convient store to get sonething to eat on the way back. Also have to pay attention to hoe they charge you. I know some folks have had good experiences I guess it changes by the day.
