Sail Away...Balcony or Deck

On deck. We have tried both and definitely more fun at the party on deck. If you don't want to be that close to the crowd, go up a deck or two above lido and check out the view, both on and off ship.

Our then 17 yr old & her friend enjoy the party atmosphere on the deck. But my DH & I enjoy the seclusion of opening a bottle of wine or champagne on our balcony. It's our tradition to be lazy on the first day & then we hit the ground running on our first full day!

A matter of choice. Both are good. For me, I like the privacy and intimacy of my balcony with the one I am sailing with...open some champagne, anticipate our time together. I have founds others on nearby balconies doing the same and we toast each other. I have made friends however that enjoy the lively gathering on the Lido deck. Remember, you will have another sail a wy from the ports, so if you do not like the crowd the first day, relive the moment on your balcony after your first port. Just enjoy your vacation.:)

I have only done one cruise, and I was on deck and it was pretty exciting! The atmosphere is fantastic!

My partner and I have a Balcony on our Breeze in October so I will have to try watching the sail away from a port of call down there!

First time down south, so don't want to miss the view of Miami as we sail away!

We like to be up on deck, especially if the ship has a sail away "party". Up on the top deck you can get some great shots of the port you are sailing away from. You can see so much up there and move from side to side.

If you don't want the crowds and party, stay on your balcony.

When I'm on vacation I love the party atmosphere and try to meet as many people as I can. I would definitely say the deck, especially on the first day when everyone is excited! I get an inside cabin every cruise because I'm literally only in my cabin to sleep and shower. But I am a single guy, the cabin selection would change to a balcony if I had a girlfriend. Still say the deck for sail away though!

This will be our third cruise, but first cruise with a balcony room. Where is the best place to be for the sailaway...our private balcony or on deck?

Join the fun on deck, then go to your balcony and have some fun.

When I'm sailing with a group of friends (Freedom in Oct. with 17 of us) - we'll party up on deck. Tons of fun, horns blowing, picture taking, other cruisers. When I sail with my husband (Celebrity in Feb) - I want the romance of the balcony and the two of us starting out our adventure with a cocktail away from the crowds. Either way - ENJOY!

For me the initial sailaway I prefer on deck. But subsequent ports I hang out one balcony If I'm watching at all. It's fun to look for pier runners from your balcony!

We do the same. The atmosphere at sail away is great! Everyone is ready for their vacation to start. Being on your deck at sail away from ports is priceless watching the "lively" people return to the ship, or not return as the ship is sailing away. Hopefully those that don't make it back have their camera so they can take a picture of their ship sailing away; beautiful.

Agree, we have done both (and always have a balcony). It's the atmosphere.

For sailaway, we love the atmosphere on the decks, especially Lido, or one up:D:D

We spend plenty of time on our balcony throughout the cruise, so we don't feel like we're missing out.

As long as your are on a ship, ANYWHERE is a good location!!:D:D

We've done both. I prefer sail-away from our own balcony though. I'm not that much of a "party person", prefer more quiet so to me it's nicer from our balcony. I remember our next-to-last cruise we were up on deck, as DH does seem to prefer that.

Our last one, however, we had an aft facing balcony and we cruised down the Mississippi River for a few hours after leaving port (New Orleans) so my sister-in-law and I stayed on our balconies and enjoyed sailaway together watching the sights on the river, and the guys went up on deck.

You'll just have to try both and see which way you prefer. :)
