ron1946 Posted August 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2013 Was curious about the "Florida Resident Rates" just for me on the Carnival Web Site, so thought I would check some rates. When I clicked on the special on the web site, they all pertain to the Fascination out of Jacksonville, so that is what I compared.... I looked at three different dates/sailings (Oct 19, Jan 16, and Feb 17)under this "special" then I looked at the same dates as a "straight" booking on a different computer that has not been signed in to the Carnival Website, I did not give any "State" information and low and behold, the rates for all three cruises, all four stateroom categories are exactly the same! Can anyone give me clarification why Carnival would advertise "Florida Resident Rates" but the rate is the same for anyone else? Did you actually select the rate for residents? I can't answer that question. I do know for a fact (based on my past experience with a resident rate) that the fares are different. My past Valor cruise offered a RR for Texas residents and it was lower than the normal prices. So, I can't explain what was going on with you. Cruise-Crazy Posted August 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2013 Not all cruises qualify for the special rate
serene56 Posted August 10, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2013 the resident rate may be for another state like texax or utah. resident rate is not always the home port
lrowe70 Posted August 10, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 10, 2013 Hummmm...I' a little confused by what you did or saw. Did the ad you saw say "Florida resident rate" or "resident rate"? Usually it just says "resident rate" which means there is a deal for some of the 50 states, not necessarily the state you're in though.
Jeafl Posted August 10, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2013 I'm not sure how scientific my research is, but I got an email advertising special rates for Illinois residents. I checked three different cruises with and without the Illinois resident rate and the prices were the same. Therefore, I tend to agree with you OP. I get emails all the time for special sales, and yet my cruise has not changed one cent since March. I pretty much ignore any advertised sales and just keep checking the fare viewer for any reductions.
lovebelle Posted August 10, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 10, 2013 Not sure what you observed specifically, but anytime I have noticed a resident rate for Florida it was always lower. Like others have mentioned though, those rates are not always available or the discount may be for another state.
kristinp36 Posted August 10, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 10, 2013 For our upcoming cruise in Nov/Dec we are cruising on a resident rate & a friend (diff state) is not. Her Senior rate was almost the same as our resident rate. I think our rate was $20 pp cheaper. But all of the current sales are more. gusandgidgetsmom Posted August 11, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 11, 2013 We received a resident rate from our state that others in our group did not. Ours is 200.00 cheaper than those without a resident rate. It just came up for our state about two weeks before final payment.
Lovefuninthesun Posted August 11, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 11, 2013 If the particular resident rate is applicable for your sailing, then it is cheaper. However, the resident rate doesn't apply across the board for all cruises. I don't know what their equation is. Sailor_Sally Posted August 11, 2013 #11 Share Posted August 11, 2013 In order to see the resident rate you need to enter your state & zip code . I just booked the Florida resident rate for the Legend and it was a lot cheaper than the regular rate .
Tennessee Rose Posted August 11, 2013 #12 Share Posted August 11, 2013 It depends on your state, date of sailing, and ship. I regularly check the fare viewer for price drops and of course use my state in that. If there is a resident rate for my state, it shows as an option. Just today, out of curiosity, I checked our sailing using my sister's state which is different from mine, and there was no resident rate. Immediately checked with my state---yep, there it was. I have no idea how they set these sales up, but I just check ALL the options for the various sales and look at various categories too. Just in case one has dropped dramatically and I need to know! purplemusik Posted August 11, 2013 #13 Share Posted August 11, 2013 My Florida resident rate for Feb was quite a bit cheaper
Cruise-Crazy Posted August 11, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 11, 2013 The rate is not for every cruise. Some cruise qualify others don't, kind of hit and miss...... But I have received a discount at times.
Bases5 Posted August 11, 2013 #15 Share Posted August 11, 2013 My upcoming Freedom cruise Sept 29 has a Fl resident rate that is pretty good. It's a tad better than the casino rate I booked with months ago. But its a Ov or balcony guarantee and it's not enough of a savings to risk a guarantee cabin for us. We did not book early saver. ata1976 Posted August 11, 2013 #16 Share Posted August 11, 2013 We are booked in October on Fascination. When we check GA rates they are different than than our friends' KY rates that are sailing with us. 1midsun Posted August 12, 2013 #17 Share Posted August 12, 2013 We have a cruise booked for Feb, and last week, I noticed that there was a "Canadian Resident rate" lo and behold, we saved a total of $540!!!! I have never seen a Canadian Resident rate before (but really haven't cruised too often) this is our third booked cruise. We were pleasantly surprised!! medtrans10 Posted August 12, 2013 #18 Share Posted August 12, 2013 I am in GA cruising out of FL, and when I put GA in, it brings up resident rates for FL. I checked with my PVP at Carnival and she said Georgia is included in the FL resident rates.

I checked with my PVP at Carnival and she said Georgia is included in the FL resident rates. Glad you have that confirmed. The same thing kept happening with me, as we have one cabin with GA residents in it. I sent in a price reduction form and did receive the price drop. :) But I didn't want them showing up on embarkation and not have the correct residence on their drivers license.

I have never seen a Canadian Resident rate before (but really haven't cruised too often) this is our third booked cruise. We were pleasantly surprised!! Myself I just learned a month ago to enter my province in the resident field as dummy me thought it was only if you lived in the USA... but then someone told me to scroll down to the Canadian provinces... well "taa daa" living in Ontario has saved us 130.00 over any other rate... it pays to keep checking! cherbear4000 Posted August 13, 2013 #21 Share Posted August 13, 2013 I just got $160 OBC using the Florida resident rate on my early saver form. It was much cheaper than any other of the rates and the only rate cheaper than what I originally payed.

drakes2 Posted August 13, 2013 #24 Share Posted August 13, 2013 I also just booked an Ontario resident rate for my upcoming cruise next month. I booked the lowest rate which is for a guarantee balcony, and after some consideration decided to go with a secured cabin for an additional $25 for the week, midship cabin on a higher deck. That was a great deal! We recently booked on a Canadian Resident rate as well, saved almost $500 for our cruise. Thankfully I booked when I did because when I went back the next day there was no CDN resident rate to choose.
