Even though it means cruising less often, due to the higher fares it is still hands down my favorite line. And by the time you add drink packages, ridiculous singe supplement fares on other lines, so called premium restaurant fees, etc it does not cost much more to sail on Crystal-with a lot classier clientele for the most part(and generally quieter/better behaved)!

I like the way solo passengers are treated, from reasonable supplements to overall treatment on board. I said 5 star service in my previous post but it is really 6 stars.

Of course, it depends what you like. If you go on longer cruises (at least 12 days) and not during summer or Christmas - there will not be many kids and usually an older crowd. (I was on a HAL 24 day to Rio and no kids under 16 on the whole ship and average age was probably 62. Also about 80% on the trip to Rio were on the Round Trip - 47 days, so most retired).

 

Some lines have ships with laundry service and others without. Usually older ships seem to have a self serve laundry.

 

Some people like specialty restaurants. HAL only had a couple and one just just an extension of the buffet area. NCL had a lot and I thought they were very good - we had 4 specialty dining passes in our price.

 

Some like the shows. Smaller ships usually do not have fancy shows, but often the 1 man type shows are very good.

 

Some like casinos -- HAL had a very low key, low rake poker game - but it took a few days before the player decided when they would get together.

 

The other factor is price. Of course, you can go on a top tier ship in an inside cabin for less than a low tier ship in a Suite.

 

No easy options - just enjoy what you do.

For the first time in many, many years I am stepping outside of the

box and taking my first River Cruise:D.......and have just over a week

to go.....flying out on April 5th.....I sail solo and am so looking forward

to this cruise:)...AMA Waterways "TULIP TIME".

Carnival's fleet is the best. I love just about all the ships. My least favorite is the Valor. Carnival has always made the cruises special. The most favorite personalities showed by workers was on the Ecstasy. The Casino Hosts and blackjack dealers were exceptional. WE have been on 35+ cruises with carnival. My husband has since passed away but we started cruising when we found out he had dementia, trying to get some really good memories. OH Boy we got a lot of fabulous memories. My favorite port is Costa Mya, and Caricou, and Aruba. Not sure on the spelling...LOL Laurie:)

 

The Casino staff on the Miracle was great too, we got non stop drinks...

I pretty much sail with Princess and RCI. I have sailed with Carnival, Celebrity, Costa and NCL! I never state which cruise line is the "best" because it is all about individual interests, perception, and what suits ones personality. Because of individual perception, there is no such thing as one being better than all the rest.

 

At this stage of my life, I sail for itinerary, don't go to the Caribbean unless a transatlantic cruise ends in Florida! I've been cruising since 1982 and 7 day cruises are never high on my list.

 

I'm leaving on the Regal Princess April 17th for 25 days. Transatlantic plus Baltic and next year in March, I'm back to RCI for 20+ days, Australia and New Zealand. In 2018, it will be a month or more for South America, cruise line depends on itinerary, which is all that matters to me at this stage of my life, 68, been cruising since I was 35! :D

I believr it makes more sense to compare particular ships within one line, than whole line. <br />

Experience is very different on RCCL Brilliance and Allure. Older people might like smaller ships more than huge kids filled.
