New York, New York....... Here We Come

Aussie Gal

Recommended Posts

I cannot believe we have only 3 days to go before we leave here and finally get to vist your wonderful country, especially New York and Boston.

We fly to Singapore on Wednesday morning and on Thursday fly directly non stop from Singapore to New York - an 18 hour trip.

We are both so excited to think that we will not only be seeing New York but Boston as well plus the countryside between the two cities as we will be taking the train, before we board the "lovely" Maasdam for our Transatlantic trip to Rotterdam. ;)

It is going to be a great vacation.

If our TV weather forecasters are correct, you will be greeted with lots of sunshine, temp in the mid-80s, a bit of humidity, for most of the upcoming week. Perfect for visiting NY and Boston. May you have a safe and pleasant journey and a vacation filled with wonderful memories.

BON VOYAGE

Thanks everyone for your good wishes.

I have had a prepack and everything I wish to take fits into my Samsonite Oyster suitcase and it only weighs 24kg which is pretty good. I am so relieved as my DH said we couldn't bring an extra suitcase due to the train travel we will be doing. ;)

Kiwi Kruzer,

You will love the Statendam, it is the sister ship to the Maasdam. It is a thrill that HAL will be in our waters during most of our summer months - a first!! Yes we are escaping winter, though so far it has been very mild. I think we are going to far colder places on this cruise. :)

Travel safely, Jennie.

I really hope you have a wonderful time. You've done a great deal of travel and I hope our cities in America's Northeast do not disappoint. Boston really is a wonderful city. Sooo much to do and see; so much history and art and education and medicine and shopping and dining and sports.......it's hard to not find something to enjoy in our beautiful city.

Have a great time!! And please be sure to post some comments when you return (or along the way if you get the chance.)

Bon Voyage! Happy Landings.

Sail,

Thanks so much for your good wishes. As you can see we are really looking forward to visiting the U.S. having been to Europe so many times. This time we are having a taste of the "New World" together with a serving of the "Old World" - Scotland and Norway on the cruise and then beautiful Switzerland at the end.

I will post some comments when I return home which will be around the middle of August. I am not thinking of taking out an internet package whilst on board. I want to have a rest from the computer and enjoy the ship and also spend some time reading which to me is one of life's true delights.

Aussie Gal :

First of all, I wish you all of the best for a safe and exciting adventure "over here" and then on to Rotterdam!

I am considering Aus/NZ for the spring of 2006 and I may come to you with a few inquiries!

Which airline carrier flies non-stop from Singapore to New York ? The only one that I know of (off hand) is Continental . . .?

Wishing you the best . . .

Thanks Stormy, Dan and Barb,

For your good wishes. We would love to have met up with you, Dan and Barb but unfortunately our paths are "only crossing" on the gangplank this time. I hope you two have a safe and wonderful cruise on the return journey.

Shipcafe,

Thank you for your invaluable information over the years which I have noted and absorbed as well as your good wishes. The airline that does the non stop is Singapore Airlines. If you have never flown with them, then you don't know what you are missing out on. They would have to be one of the world's best for service, efficiency, new aircraft etc. It is a joy to fly with them.

Even though I am an Aussie, they beat Qantas hands down, and yet Qantas is another good airline up with the best.

Have a wonderful visit to the U.S. New York and Boston are a good introduction, but there's so much more for you to see in the "hinterlands," that you'll have to return, someday. We'll be flying from San Diego to Singapore, in Nov., to join the Amsterdam Asia/Pacific cruise, and are equally excited about our opportunity to visit four ports in Australia! Have a great cruise.

Jennie,

What a beautiful trip you have planned, enjoy every second of it. :)

Just as Sail described Boston, NYC also has a million things to offer. I think I read in one of the other threads that you have tickets to see Chicago. Great Show!! Enjoy!

One day I hope to visit your beautiful country. The pictures and programs I have seen of it are awesome. .....One of these days ....*LOL*

Have a great time and a wonderful cruise.

We'll all be looking forward to your reports when you return.

Have a safe trip and Enjoy :)

Bobpat, Babyher, Heather and Michael,

First of all thanks for the good wishes. I know it does seem ages since we first planned this trip, long before we booked it on the Prinsendam last October.

We are going to enjoy every minute. We love Singapore so that is a great first stop to get our breath back before we take the long haul over to N.Y.

Yes we have got tickets for Chicago for next Tuesday night - 12th July - and that will be another wonderful experience. I will have to keep pinching myself to really believe I am in New York, it was a city I used to dream about when I was young and it seemed so different to here with its huge skyscrapers, traffic etc. Of course we have caught up and are not so far behind now, so perhaps it won't seem so different now.

Aussie Gal-

Safe travels to you and yours!!!:D

Your long haul flight puts it all into perspective....I will try not to whine ever again about a 12 hour flight + flight! I understand Singapore Airlines has pretty good cuisine and service!

Enjoy your time in the "New Land" and your time cruising on the Maasdam with our CC buddies!

Localady,

Thanks so much for your good wishes. Before we get to Singapore, we have an eight hour flight from Melbourne to Singapore which we always have to do, one gets used to being in a plane and we always go prepared with plenty of reading matter. There are also the films to watch on your own TV screen and they start anytime on your command which is wonderful. One doesn't have to wait for a certain time for the film to commence.

I also believe you are off at the end of the month on the lovely Prinsendam. We loved being on her last year when we did the Black Sea cruise. You will love the Baltic but be prepared for exhausting days. There is so much to see and of course each day you lose time. You gain it once you leave Russia on the return trip.

Have a safe and happy cruise.

Jennie,

Just want to add our good wishes for an uneventful flight/journey to the U.S.

Your mentioning Singapore Air reminds me of a great deal we got years ago. In the Sunday S.F. Chronicle several years ago was an Ad I couldn't resist. For the first 50 people who booked the old Pearl(Paquet Line) they would receive free Business class on Singapore. I was on the phone first thing Monday to book us. What a deal that was, the cruise fare that we paid was less than the Business fare that was printed on the flight ticket. Well, I could get very used to that service. Wow! So, yes I agree that Singapore is a wonderful airline but don't know how the coach experience is.

Anyway, look forward to meeting you on the 17th.

Happy cruising,

Joanne, the chocoholic

Joanne,

We have flown both Economy and Business with Singapore and they are both very good. Mind you when comparing Business with Economy there is no comparision but you are well looked after down the back and the food is very good. Singapore have the beds in Business which is a bonus.

Thanks for your good wishes and we are looking forward to meeting you on the 17th. I cannot believe that the time has finally arrived and we will be off shortly. I am so relieved that I have managed to get everything into my case I hope I haven't left anything behind!!
