we will be in Paris the first weekend and am wondering if it is still wise to buy the 2 day museum pass even though the 1st sunday to most museum is free. Will the pass get us in faster or do we still have to stay in queue for the free admission. We were thinking of going to Chateau Versailles on that sunday which will probably take the most of the day. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I went to Versailles on a Sunday in May when it wasn't free and it was tremendously crowded. I would advise not doing this on a free day. Maybe the Louvre or larger museum would be better option.

People with passes do not get to the front of the line on "free Sundays." Free means "first come, first in." They do not look at passes or tickets because they are unnecessary. The lines will be huge unless you go in December or January. The lines will be shorter if you line up at least half hour before opening time. If you get there after opening time, it could take a really long time. Your plan of going to Versailles is good, but get to the Palace itself (not the train station) by 8:30 to line up before the big crowds arrive.

Having visited Versailles mid week when it was not crowded, I can't imagine going on a free day. It is such a beautiful place and most enjoyable if not over run.
