Cruisin 4 Ever Posted September 11, 2013 #26 Share Posted September 11, 2013 I'm surprised by how many people have never missed ports. I've been on 4 cruises with Carnival and only made it to all ports on one cruise. We missed Cozumel on my first cruise but went to Calica instead. On my third cruise we missed Belize, Cozumel and Roatan and went to Nassau and Ocho Rios instead (due to hurricane) and on my last cruise last year we were supposed to get to Half Moon Cay, Turks and Caicos and Nassau, but the thrusters were broken so they took us to Key West , Freeport and Nassau instead. The guy at guest services told us that they miss Half Moon Cay at least one in 4 cruises. We've booked again to go to Half Moon cay in January so I"m really hoping our luck improves! starfish216 Posted September 11, 2013 #28 Share Posted September 11, 2013 We made it to Half Moon Cay, such a quiet and relaxing place http://s989.photobucket.com/user/dragonfly94-2010/media/HalfMoonCay.jpg.html?sort=3&o=
Pellaz Posted September 12, 2013 #29 Share Posted September 12, 2013 We missed it due to tendering being unsafe on a November cruise a couple of years ago. Replaced by Freeport (:() but made the best of it! When we missed it, we just weighed anchor and sailed away ("Goodbye, Cabana #9, maybe next time!"). They couldn't replace it with an alternate port but we got an extra hour at Grand Turk and (I think) San Juan. I'm surprised by how many people have never missed ports.I've been on 4 cruises with Carnival and only made it to all ports on one cruise. We missed Cozumel on my first cruise but went to Calica instead. Wow, you missed Cozumel? Must've been a heckuva storm! The guy at guest services told us that they miss Half Moon Cay at least one in 4 cruises. Somewhat consistent, then, with what other experienced cruisers have posted here on CC in the past. We've booked again to go to Half Moon cay in January so I"m really hoping our luck improves! Here's hoping...for all of us!
Piper934 Posted October 25, 2013 #30 Share Posted October 25, 2013 I've been there 2 or 3 times. Never missed it. Coco Cay on RCCL and Great Stirrup Cay on NCL are another story. I am 0 for 2 on royal to coco cay, one year in june and another in october. Going carnival in march. Hopefully the season is better and sounds like the percent is better by these posts. Keep my fingers crossed, private islands sounds like the highlights of a lot of folks cruises. Pellaz Posted October 25, 2013 #32 Share Posted October 25, 2013 I can now say I am 1-for-2 at HMC, since we DID make it there last week. It really IS a gorgeous place. Finally getting a cabana there was pretty sweet! Snorkeling is only so-so, though; CocoCay is a better bet there.

Rare Jamman54 Posted October 25, 2013 #34 Share Posted October 25, 2013 We are 7 for 7, all on Carnival, during the summer season. I guess one day the odds will catch up with us, as we have not missed one single port in nearly 40 cruises!! Knocking on wood!!!

jwalk03 Posted October 25, 2013 #37 Share Posted October 25, 2013 This is my third cruise coming up that has Half Moon Cat as a port. On my last 2 cruises on Holland America the ship bypassed the island. They claimed it was too rough to tender. I was very disappointed and now feel like I will never get there. Someone on the cruise said if they didn't make their mark financially they would pass up the island to make up some revenue with a sea day. So my question is how many cruises don't make it there? They make plenty of money at Half Moon Cay for a day. If they really wanted to increase revenue on a particular sailing it would make a lot more sense to skip another port (where everything you buy isnt from the cruise line) But this makes absolutely no sense either becuase of the lost excursion money. jwalk03 Posted October 25, 2013 #38 Share Posted October 25, 2013 3 cruises, all with Carnival and have not missed a port yet. One in March, one in May, and the most recent one during the peak of hurricane season in September.

luvsviola Posted October 26, 2013 #43 Share Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) We made it there this week...and it was beautiful, but a ton (thousands) of jelly fish. They were everywhere. Luckily the tenticles weren't long and the water was clear enough you could mostly avoid them. Edited October 26, 2013 by luvsviola
golfadj Posted October 26, 2013 #44 Share Posted October 26, 2013 I've made it 2 out of 2. The whole passing it up on purpose thing is just a rumor angry cruisers start when they do miss port. Carnival owns the place. They get the revenue from drinks sold onshore, chair rentals, excursions like snorkeling and horseback riding, cabana rentals, etc. Plus they aren't consuming all that fuel they would be at sea (although casino isn't open so there are things to offset each other.) I always chuckle at the missed port conspiracy theories. I've yet to miss a port in 13 cruises. You'd think if it happened regularly and Carnival had a big plot to make more revenue that way I'd have missed one by now.:p Sailed all different times of year, too. I've been told (by someone at Carnival) that Carnival gets about the same profit from a port day vs a sea day. Sea days they bring in more in drink and casino sales, but are using more fuel and food. Port days they are getting the excursion revenue and saving on food and fuel. Wow never missed a port in 13 cruises. Should not have said that as you know what will happen on next cruise dont you Two scheduled for HMC and both made it but first one had to leave early due to approaching storm. Kinda glad of that; got stung by one off Montauk when I was ten and I'd have been Unhappy to see another one.
